A new piece of research (called 'The Experience Movement') shows the experience economy and demand for live events are stronger than ever. According to the research, the craving people have for real world experiences stems from a desire to create positive change, feel part of something and to have a meaningful connection with people, their community and the world. Well... of course!! Read the research summary and download the report here: www.eventbrite.com/l/millennialsreport-2017

"For Millennials, experiences continue to trump things: 3 out of 4 Millennials would choose to spend their money on an experience rather than buying something desirable."

This is a solar-powered light installation we created for Vivid Sydney all the way back in 2014. 'Ray', as we called him, was the first solar-powered light installation at Vivid, was interactive (he talked to you if you tweeted him) and was the most visited art work at Vivid that year (according to IBM data on the Vivid crowd). Ray also got stacks of media coverage from SBS, Now This News, Inhabitat and Vice Creators Project. We had never done anything like it before but were so glad we did, working with an incredibly talented team to pull it together: Pollinate Energy (the brand we were bringing to life at Vivid), Amigo & Amigo (light sculptors), S1T2 (interactivity), Southern Cross University (who brought the solar panels to Sydney!) and PwC Australia who sponsored the installation. This is an image of an incredible natural phenomenon known as a 'murmuration' of starlings (birds) that swirls and twists as the birds move in tandem in the sky.

It's an incredible thing to witness. The birds are incredibly swift and precise and move together in such a way that it creates shapes that take over the sky at a scale that is simply awe-inspiring.

What makes it possible for this co-ordination is an interesting mix of physics and biology that scientists have been able to uncover.. when they analysed the movement of starlings in a murmuration they found that starling flocks are best described with a concept known as 'critical transitions' by physicists. Systems that are poised to tip, to be almost instantly and completely transformed - like metals becoming magnetised or liquid turning to gas. Each starling in a flock is connected to the next and therefore is connected to every other. When a flock transforms the change is sudden complete.

We think it's a beautiful visual metaphor for how our political climate can change dramatically at a moment's notice, and we can be the ones to tip it. At , tomorrow and Wednesday, there will be a sculptural artwork representing a murmuration installed above the audience at Melbourne Town Hall. The team in collaboration with & have designed and produced this artwork for .

We're so excited to come together to plan for change across areas as diverse as human rights, gender equality, Indigenous representation, environmental conservation and social justice - to prepare for these tipping point moments and to initiate them. And we'll share photos of the install as it goes in!

Right now, we have reached such an extreme set of circumstances in our political systems that it feels poised to tip in the opposite direction. See you at to make it happen.

The circular economy is a force that is fast shaping business - moving from the linear model of 'take make waste' manufacturing to one where all materials are absorbed and re-used in a closed loop 🌳🔄. are well ahead of this curve with their beautiful product: blankets made from the recycled offcuts from a wool mill in Tasmania. Recycled merino wool..🐑what's not to love. And for a few more days you can support them on their journey by contributing to a crowdfunding camping to help the Seljak sisters create a summer blanket.
