A short excursion to Vevey and Mont-Pèlerin. We enjoyed the steep funicular ride to the end of the line and hot chocolate with beautiful sunset. We walked down through the peaceful residential area and the terraced vineyards which has been registered as the UNESCO world heritage.

Feeding Asian Elephants in Pinnawala Orphanage 💕Orphans have been displaced from their wild habitat by development projects or have been found abandoned before weaning, diseased or wounded. It’s also amazing to see them walking down the street (for bathing) which is full of shops and visitors. They were so close and big - we could almost touch them! (Only if you are brave enough to do so).

Travelling to Interlaken. We met a lovely gentleman on the train who was friendly and welcoming us to Switzerland. We enjoyed the conversation with him and local biscuits he gave us all! We hope he received the umbrella he left behind on the train!

The Lion Monument - it is more than just a monument .

It commemorates the Swiss guards who died during the French Revolution.

It’s 10th August 1792: on this day, some 1,000 Swiss guardsmen were protecting the life of King Louis XVI of France with unconditional loyalty and bravery. The revolutionaries stormed the King’s residence which the Swiss were defending, leading to the virtual annihilation of the Swiss Guard. The Lion Monument, a powerful memorial, pays homage to the selfless heroes of these men.

The train journey to/from Mt provided the wonderful view. The Vitznau–Rigi railway was opened 1871 and was the first mountain railway in Europe. Train was full with skiers ⛷️ and visitors to enjoy the stunning view from the top. Sue and Diana were ‘testing’ sledging 🇨🇭

Zurich-style sliced lamb and Spätzli with mushroom cream sauce🍴After exploring the city of Zurich, we joined the boat and enjoyed the local meal on the Lake Zurich. Relaxing three hours journey. Rosemary and Brian, who came to Japan with us also joined for this lunch - wonderful to catch up with them❣️

We visited the Fraumünster church, which has five beautiful stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall. It also has an impressive organ with 6.959 pipes - the largest organ in the canton of Zurich 🇨🇭
