Humpback Whales Feeding off Bermagui 2021
Each year during August and September we often see pods of humpbacks feeding on the Sapphire Coast. However this past week the feeding kicked up a gear and we have seen super pods feeding on bait balls. On Thursday over 100 gathered on one of the largest bait balls we have seen and then yesterday we witnessed a pod of approx 40 feeding again on another bait ball. There are so many whales off Bermagui at the moment. It appears that they are cruising around in pods of 4 - 6 hunting for food and then all of a sudden the bait balls form and they come in from everywhere. Incredible cooperative approach with the outlying whales beating their tails and pec fins and the inner whales benefiting! We have taken 1000's of photos and hours of footage but here is a small taste of what it is like.
Hopefully it will encourage you to think about visiting Bermagui next August-September to experience it for yourself. π
The whales are on their way π
Today our sister boat down south saw a whale! She was doing a tour from Bermagui to Montague Island. After having a fantastic time watching the playful seal colonies we circumnavigated the island. Then we saw a blow to the east! Minutes later there was lots of excitement onboard when the whale came up under the boat. It is early in the season but they are on their way ....
Our season starts 22 May, 2021. To book your whale adventure please give us a call (02) 6495 1686 or book online www.gowhalewatchingsydney.com.au
