Vintage Rail Journeys conducts rail tours using our own private fleet of ex-Southern Aurora Carriages. We offer an exciting series of 5 day/4 night rail tours through regional NSW on our train, starting and ending at Central Station, Sydney.

Whilst travelling on the 5-day Riverina Rail Tour you will have the opportunity to visit the Historical Railway Museum featuring a 100-foot turntable, showcasing steam and diesel locomotives.

The Junee Roundhouse is one of just a few surviving, working, railway Roundhouses in the Southern Hemisphere. It is uniquely Australian as its size, being fully circular and having a long, ‘100 foot’, turntable. While the Museum is part of the Roundhouse, the other part, including the turntable, is still used as a diesel locomotive servicing facility by Junee Railway Workshop. 🚂🛤️

We love to welcome solo travellers onboard, and the Heritage Single Cabin is perfect for these guests. Each cabin featuring a day lounge, foot rest, fold down wash basin and mirror. By night, converting to a cosy bed. Guests travelling in Heritage Single Cabins will have access to a large, shared bathroom at either end of their carriage.

G’Day and Welcome Aboard!

Vintage Rail Journeys has secured a fleet of ex-Southern Aurora carriages and is restoring them to their original condition, to form our 1960s ‘Aurora Australis’ sleeping train.

We aim to provide slow rail tours across regional NSW, and beyond.

Celebrate Australia’s diverse history and rich culture with visits to regional towns, gardens and attractions. Travel on rail lines which don’t have scheduled passenger services, making this a real adventure.

The train accommodates up to 138 guests in a combination of twin and single cabins. Every cabin has a private toilet with the twin cabins also offering a private shower. Where possible, an option of off train accommodation will be provided.
