October is National Dessert Month. You heard right, there’s a whole month dedicated to desserts. Not that any of us need any prompting when it comes to eating desserts - right?
National Dessert Month is an annual designation observed in the month of October. That’s right, you literally have 31 days to indulge in dessert and justify every mouthful with, “It’s National Dessert Month”.
If you are lucky enough to be travelling through France in October, celebrating National Dessert Month is so easy because every small town, village and city will always have their own boulangerie with tempting desserts to choose from, well the choice of pâtisseries is almost endless! In fact the list of French desserts is endless. Not only can you eat a different dessert every day during National Dessert Month, it can be easily extended into November as well ! I’ve counted 53, how many have you found?

Just finished 2 great days at the Virtuoso trade show. Saw close to 300 travel agents, meeting many of them for the first time. I was very happy with my stand. The back poster, expensive as it was, made a beautiful backdrop.

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the absolute must sees on the Côte d’Azur. The beautiful villa and gardens sit high in the exclusive neighbourhood of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The Maison is surrounded by 9 ‘themed’ gardens. Built and designed by Beatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, she was to become one of the greatest collectors of art of her century, collecting porcelain, furniture, paintings and tapestries. In 1933 before Beatrice passed away, she bequeathed her Villa and gardens to France along with some 5,000 works of art.

Menton, the last town before crossing into Italy was simply beautiful. With its church on the hill, it’s terracotta coloured apartments, it’s beach, it’s many restaurants lining the Promenade du Soleil, it’s definitely worth a stop along the Riviera.

Grasse is the center of the French perfume industry and is known as the world’s perfume capital. It produces over two-thirds of France’s natural aromas (for perfume and for food flavourings). A pretty town to visit. Not only is there an opportunity to create your own perfume, but they have an interesting museum, the International Museum of Perfume which explores perfume since the Egyptian times and a well documented history over the centuries. In 2018, UNESCO recognized the perfume-making savoir faire of Grasse as intangible world cultural heritage.

Royal Automobile Museum in Monaco houses the personal collection of Prince Rainier III of Monaco (1923–2005), and assembled over a thirty-year period. The collection contains almost one hundred classic cars made in Europe and the United States. Notable cars in the collection include the Bugatti Type 35 driven by William Grover-Williams that won the inaugural Monaco Grand Prix in 1929,and Sébastien Loeb’s Citroën DS3 WRC, which he drove to victory in the 2013 Monte Carlo Rally. 38 cars from the collection were put up for auction in 2012 due to Prince Albert II’s desire to re-organise and expand the collection. The Rolls Royce were beautiful.

Another wonderful day, this time to Monaco. We just missed the Grand Prix, but we saw the course and the seating which they were in the process of dismantling.
