‼️Victoria and NSW school goers‼️

We are gearing up for a big and fun spring school holidays with you all. With more sunshine and plenty of good times ahead, make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment. For those little people or beginners who are feeling the nerves, we recommend our 2 hour ride that takes you through an old stock route amongst the trees.
For our more adventurous and experienced riders, we would love you to join us on our half day ride, with plenty of beautiful views from the Alpine National park.

Our day rides are fun for the whole family with kids 8 years and over able to join in on all the fun, but for our little ones under 8, Spring Spur’s Horse Play is where it’s at with a knowledgeable guide going through the basics of horsemanship and plenty of quality time spend with their horse of the day !

How long have you been riding for?: I first started riding when I was a young g girl at my Uncle Phil’s place, so a long time 😏

Meet Alex 🫶🏻

Nickname: Allie, Al

Favourite food: Anything Lin cooks, he’s an excellent cook (minus coriander, mushrooms or shellfish) although one of my favourite dinner has got to be a grazing platter with extra cheese!

Favourite horse at Spring Spur: Tough call, there are many favourites, they’re all so unique! I do love riding Stringer - we get on very well, he’s the perfect mix of forward energy, calm thought processing and s***k. Plus I took him on his first ever ride into the mountains when he was a youngster. Shannonvale holds a special spot too as I was at her birth and adored her dam Sassafras.

How long have you been working at Spring Spur?: since 2014

How long have you been riding for?: I got my first riding lessons as a 10th birthday present and never looked back

Favourite time of year for a ride?: summer evenings when it cools off, the sun sets and the night sounds start as you’re unsaddling

Fun fact about yourself: I play the cello, love the ocean and make wine for a living

🐴 Our all day rides will be back very soon and they are a big hit, spending all day riding through the alpine national park and stopping to relax by the river to enjoy a packed lunch !

Nickname: Mum calls me Lino, everyone in town calls me Clay (brother), the mean kids at school used to tease me that I had a girl’s name, so I guess I’m a bit like that Johnny Cash song, A boy named Sue.
Favourite food: It changes, but today double carbs - hand made pasta amatriciana with Focaccia and evoo.
Favourite horse at Spring Spur: It’s a toss up between Maud and Shannonvale.
How long have you been working at Spring Spur?: Since I was 4
How long have you been riding for?: Since I was 4
Favourite time of year for a ride?: Autumn evening, definitely not Spring morning.
Fun fact about yourself: if someone asks me how old their horse is, my reply is always ‘about 12’ regardless.

How long have you been riding: I did some riding when I was a kid and have been seriously riding for about 3 years

Kath and Steve Baird (pictured) settled in Tawonga with their two young boys Lin and Clay in 1986. They arrived with a truck load of horses and a vision for a family business that would honour the traditions of the High Country horse and offer unique quality visitor experiences. That vision still drives this family business. Spring Spur is truly the home of Bogong Horseback Adventures, the Baird family sanctuary, and for the visitor, a country home away from home.

How long have you been riding for?: since I was little I’ve always loved horses and worked with my grandma on a farm when I was 3. Officially started lessons at the age of 11 (after begging my parents my whole life)
Favourite time of year for a ride?: summer when the fresh wild produce along the trail is ripe to be eaten as a snack
Fun fact about yourself: from qld originally I now live locally in the mountains of falls creek resort and am a fully qualified ski and snowboard instructor. And an avid ultra trail runner.
