We would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people and organisations who aided with the funding to build our beautiful new Sensory Garden:
Blacktown Ponds Lions Club
Michelle Rowland & The Greenway Stronger Communities Project
Making it Happen Charity
Our Sensory Garden is made up of many areas for students to learn and play in a natural outdoor environment.
The covered amphitheatre and stage – provides a place to learn in a group and countless opportunities for creativity and performing.
Our sand pit (covered with the fixed umbrella) and sand kitchen, provide students with the ability to engage using their senses through touching, feeling, and collecting natural objects.
Our sand drawing table will encourage and enable all our students to learn about indigenous symbols and their meanings.
Our grinding station will teach students the skill of grinding and crushing different materials such as making flour from seeds and show them the ability to change the form of a rock.
Our hand water pumps enable students to practice their gross motor skills to pump the water and make wet sand in the sand pit area and watch the water meander along the sandstone channel.
Our tee pee will provide endless opportunities for our students to discover and use their imagination.
Natural sensory environments provide children with opportunities to learn about the world in a meaningful way and their place within it. Our students will be exposed to a range of natural textures, different sounds and surfaces. Fine motor and gross motor skills will be developed, challenged and strengthened. Nature provides opportunities for discovery, creativity, problem solving, and Aboriginal and STEM education.
We want our students to create strong connections to the land and learn to appreciate it.
Earlier this month, we celebrated Diwali.
Diwali is a Festival of Lights and is one of the most prominent and famous Hindu Festivals of India! Students engaged and learnt about this celebration.
