What a wonderful opportunity we had today to explore the stunning Jimbour House and Gardens. Due to the recent rain, we got to enjoy our Devonshire Tea in the Formal Dining Room (instead of the gardens), before being taken on a guided tour of this impressive residence. The rain was kind enough to hold off so we could take a few pictures from the gardens.

Our Southern African shirts would have to be one of the best souvenir ideas we have seen for travellers.

They were customised specific to our tour itinerary. The whole group decided to buy one and they had them ready for us within 24 hours and waiting at the hotel reception on our departure.

We were all so happy with our unique souvenir, but the best part is that we were supporting local children in need with our purchase. They will be a cherished memento of our fantastic adventure.

Well our final day of the Southern Africa Tour has come. We ventured out on a full day guided tour to the 'Cape National Park'.

On the way there we stopped off to see the African Penguins (and Dassie) at Boulders Beach. We were surprised to see so many, and out and about during the day compared to our penguins back in Oz.

The NP again provided another unique landscape with dramatic, cliff faced mountains and endemic flora. Some made the hike to the top of the hill, and some hitched a ride on the shuttle, but either way the views from the Lighthouse warranted the last run of steep steps.

We dined at the on-site restaurant on the deck overlooking the stunning views across False Bay to the mountain ranges. We also had the fortune of spotting some Southern Right Whales out in the bay as well as Eland, Cape Fur Seals and Ostritch in the Park.

Our final stop was at the 'Cape of Good Hope' - The most South-Western point of the African Continent.

There was some last minute souvenir shopping before we had our Farewell Dinner. It was a nice opportunity to reminisce on all of the amazing adventures we have had over the past few week.

Au revoir, Franschhoek!

We returned to Cape Town today with an orientation tour. Our first stop was Signal Hill, where we enjoyed a stunning view of Table Mountain, one of the world's oldest mountains, estimated to be around 600 million years old. Its distinctive flat top, spanning about 3kms from side to side, makes it a prominent landmark. The "tablecloth" phenomenon, where a layer of clouds often covers the mountain, adds to its intrigue.

Table Mountain is celebrated as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its plant diversity, with many species being endemic. Unfortunately for us, we weren't able to take the cable car to the top of the mountain today.

In the Bo-Kaap neighborhood, we admired the colourful houses, which date back to the 18th century. These vibrant colours were first used by newly freed slaves and immigrants to express their cultural identity and personal freedom.

After exploring more of Cape Town, we checked into our hotel at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront Precinct and enjoyed exploring the extensive shopping and dining options in the area.

After arriving in Cape Town, we drove an hour east to the township of Franschhoek - Dutch for "French Corner." Franschhoek has a rich history dating back to 1688 when French Huguenots settled here, bringing their wine-making expertise.

We hopped on the Franschhoek Wine Tram, a hop-on-hop-off tour that took us through the scenic vineyards. Our first stop was Rickety Bridge Winery, where we enjoyed a delightful wine tasting. We also visited the Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate and Gallery for another tasting experience.

Our trip coincided with the Bastille Day celebrations, postponed from the previous weekend due to a storm. The town was alive with festivities, including traditional French cuisine, markets, music, and more, adding an extra layer of charm to our Franschhoek adventure.

The Franschhoek mountains, with their dramatic peaks, created a breathtaking backdrop to the town. We felt as if we were in France, the Swiss Alps and South Africa all at once.

We took some time to visit the local shops and markets this afternoon, picking up a few souvenirs along the way.

Our final activity in Chobe was a river cruise (on our own boat). The Chobe River forms the international border between Botswana and Namibia. Leaving from our hotel complex, we crossed into the national park. Our goal was to see herds of elephants and giraffes drinking at the water's edge, and we were not disappointed. We also spotted some crocodiles and a variety of birdlife, including the Black Heron. This bird has a unique hunting method: it spreads its wings to create a round umbrella above the water, creating a shady spot for fish to rest and blinding them from the daylight, making them easier prey.

We encountered a breeding herd of elephants and a bachelor herd at the water's edge. Our guides speculated that the bachelor herd might swim across the river, so we waited. Our patience paid off - not with the bachelor herd but with a large breeding herd and their young, who swam from the island across the river in front of us. All the boats patiently waited to observe this amazing sight. Watching the young elephants completely submerged, following their mothers with just their trunks above water, was an incredible sight. Some of the larger adults managed to keep their backs dry, revealing their dark natural color without the usual mud and dirt coating. Our Chobe River experience concluded with another stunning sunset over the water.

We are becoming professionals at early morning, freezing cold departures and climbing in and out of safari vehicles, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

This morning, we saw massive Marabou Storks waking up in the treetops, while nearby, two trees came to life with countless baboons. We even came across a lone sleeping elephant, a rare sight. Our gorgeous sunrise photos were interrupted by the loud roar of a lion echoing across the water.

As it was our very last safari here in Africa, we were beyond excited when our guide spotted fresh leopard tracks. Hazel (who also spotted one at Kruger) and the 'Leopard Group' managed to track and spot a single leopard. With frantic radio calls and fast driving, the 'Lion Group,' who were thankfully nearby, managed to see the leopard, completing their search for the 'Big 5.' We couldn't have asked for a better finish to our safari drives.

But the morning's highlights didn't stop there. Lionesses and their cubs were spotted heading back from the river's edge to the tree line. Every vehicle in the area showed up to watch the lions. Despite the overwhelming presence of vehicles, the lions calmly meandered past us and continued on their way.

Our Southern Africa group is determined to make the most of every moment here, so instead of taking some free time to settle in at the lodge, we booked an optional sunset safari through Chobe National Park.

This safari did not disappoint, and Chobe NP lived up to our expectations based on what we had read before our arrival. The park is renowned for its large elephant population, estimated at around 50,000. These are Kalahari elephants, notable for having the largest herd size among all known elephant populations. Only moments after entering the park, which is a non-fenced reserve, we witnessed an elephant parade of over 30 individuals.

Driving along the river's edge, we saw herds of elephants, buffaloes, hippos, giraffes, lions, and various water birds.

This evening, we were again treated to a Boma-style dinner by the river.
