My Final day. Barra season 2024.

Brian and Neils 5th day. These guys have been my longest returning clients for many many years. Each year I've been raising the PB on Barra for them, but that elusive metre plus has been something that just hasn't given us the love. Well today , for Brian, he joins the club with a 106cm Barra. I don't know who is more stoked, me or him. And to do it on the final day just puts the icing on the cake on a week of large fish. Neil still scored a 69 and a 83cm to the boat but both guys have had at least 9 follows to the boat on uncommitted fish.

Time for a short well earned break for me. And to catch up on family life.

Day 4 for the lads, managed 3 from 6 today. All solid fish from 78cm to 95cm. Must say these barra are fighting on steroids, every fish not giving up so easily and at one stage Brian performed a miracle by rescuing his baitcaster over the side after it was ripped out of his grasp !

Weather a tad ordinary today, and the fish weren't really feeling the joy. But the sharks were. Even fishing the shallows now is getting harder with sharks moving in with the warmer water temps. Plenty of follows from large barra on the lures but just not commiting.

Bit of a late start due to the tides at Port Hinchinbrook this morning, but Leonie and Mick went home with many smiles after 6 Barras to a best of 68cm with a few bigger ones lost. A rogue mangrove jack at 45cm and that elusive Threadfin salmon I needed for the trifecta the other day at 72cm! 😅

Couple of nice ones at just under 80cm today for Renae who unfortunatly almost had the Barra of a life time hooked up but upon its headshake on the surface it spat the lure out from only being pinned by one treble on the side of its head.

Was working hard for a trifecta today if we could have got a thready.. found some, but just could not entice a bite out of them. Still the lads ended up with 5 barra bites of about 75 to 80cm in length and 3 really nice Fingermark.

Thank you and im very grateful for all the birthday wishes today. Phone has gone nuts and have been trying to answer everyone. It's a hard one while being away and not being able to spend it with my kids, but a couple of good mates and the lovely people at the Beachcombers restaurant made it a great one.

I thought today being my birthday that the nice old sea gods would have handed us a metre plus but alas we had 2 possible ones on only to be outdone by both of them. But still a few other barras to 80cm made up for it.

A big happy birthday to my brother Ryan. Miss the old days bro when you were still guiding, days I'll never forget. I'm on the water today doing what you did for just about an eternity. How about a brief reunion charter bro?? Be greater than an Oasis comeback concert!🤣🤣🤣

Weird bite today, plenty marking throughout the river systems. Still great to see the youngsters catch their first Barra ever, and this one being 66cm went home for dinner.
