Had a last minute urge late this afternoon to take Outkast for a bit of a check up and just to give her legs a bit of a stretch. As most of you know that these trade wind seasons can be a major pain in the freckle. Inshore is not that bad but I can assure you with these southerly based winds, it's quite uncomfortable when venturing behind the Cape or the island. However all systems are still working well and her engines are still purring like a kitten.
Great to do a quick troll with a good mate of mine and have a few laughs, burn some fuel and clear the mind a bit.

Looking forward to these sunsets getting even better shortly.

The Day started out exceptionally well with 8 or 9 nice winter Barra's around 64cm in very quick succession, even double hookups!, but the afternoon soon enough tamed down and they became somewhat upset and timid. Bit of bycatch with fingermark, flathead and grunter.. A couple of barras were taken for dinner, and the rest returned.

That sun was glorious, we get some really stunning days in winter.

Such an underrated species the old Threadfin salmon, they just never give up and fight dirty as all buggery. This one at 73cm circumnavigated the boat a few times!

When Denis booked a half day months ago, he said he was really hoping for a 1m+ Barramundi. Well they must have read the email as the first 5 mins of the day resulted in his very first metre plus at 106cms. Here in tsv at the end of his journey competing in the sh*tbox car rally for charity,... what a way to end it!

So..... I'm in the market for a new bow mount motor. Well, 2 of them actually. The old faithful (all be it testing at times) motorguides have finished production I have been told. 4 years commercial use out of this one. I guess bang for buck they weren't that bad.

I'd love to hear peoples thoughts or perhaps create a poll on which 80lb brand everyone uses , and what experience you have had with the product. And their service?

Fire away....

Not fishing related, but rather a positive post needed after all the flood disaster the region has copped in the last few months, While in Cardwell I got to sample the menu from the new owners at The Beachcomber restaurant and really from someone who loves his food!!, i was impressed. I thoroughly recommend if you are passing through here to stay and dine!.

To me there is a great satisfaction in finding new fish holding locations. Ones that can be mostly reliable and produce good numbers across most tide ranges. Always good to add to your library of options.

Time to make good use of our sharks. Seeing we have the 1.5m size rule and bag limit of 1 on most shark species. If we don't, the depradation situation is going to get a lot worse.

I was invited to attend the recent Queensland fisheries shark depradation meeting for line fisheries here in Townsville recently. Which really is an admission by them that we have a shark problem. Especially after hearing other charter operators from up north who fish in very remote locations, who all say they have the same issues in areas that hardly see a boat.

Basically, they arent listening to us and wanting to put costly band aid solutions which won't work in all fishing situations.

Ill have to do a post about the meeting another time when I have had time to calm down as we all left with the feeling of not being listened to and as if another box has been ticked by govt depts.
