Good morning on the water with Mum. Due to a car accident that resulted in a serious injury, we have not been able to fish together in nearly 10 years. However, Mum managed to catch her second-ever Barra, measuring 62cm, and will surely be doing more fishing trips in the future 🎣

Finally got out to start our Qld Barra season. Spending a few hours seeing how things are locally. We managed to find a few cool patches of fish in the rivers that are in full flood. Caught a few in the late 60s early 70s range. Great fun on the Acm 704 North Fork. It really looks like we are going to have a great year locally.

Just in time for a very wet start to QLD Barra Season opening Day (Feb 1st). A shoutout to ACM Custom Rods and Tasline for the support helping us bring top tier rods and braid to our clients. ACM make top quality custom rods and after falling in love with them a few years ago we have the opportunity to showcase Aaron's skills on our smaller boat when working on a more personal trip focused around building skillsets. We have 6 rods of varying lengths and styles to suit a range of situations. Tasline will be on offer on both vessels as our choice of braid. We have been using it for over 10 years and now its time to show clients just how good it is thanks to Frank and the team.

Alright Guys we are going to share with you a little recipe we love to use. We have made Crayfish Caviche with our spare cuts after making crumbed Crayfish Bites (OMG So Good) but also equaly as good to use in this recipe is Queenfish, Tealeaf Treveally, Golden Trevally, Squid, Octopus, Red Claw and many more it tends to work better on firm cuts as softer reef fish tends to get too soft. If doing Octopus or Squid make sure to give them a quick blanch in boiling water after removing the organs and non edible bits.

Caviche Recipe
1 Red Capsicum cut into strips or chunks
1 Carrot juiliet Cut
1/4 cup sea salt
4 cups water
2 cups white vinegar
1/4 cup sugar we use brown suger
2 tablespoons black peppercorns
3 bay leaves
3 cloves
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 medium red onion thinly sliced into rings

Optional
1 Chillie of preferance cut up fin fine rings

INSTRUCTIONS
Heat 4 cups of water, 2 cups of Vinegar ,Salt, Suger, Bay leafs, Peppercorns, Cloves and Lemon juice until Salt and Suger Dissolve. Let cool to room temperature. In the mean time place cut Fish/Crayfish filling bottom half of a Glass Jar. Top the jar up with the rest of prepaired Red Onion, Carrot, Capsicum and Chilly if using. Pour in cooled liquid until covered and refrigerate for 24 hours. Once the meat has turned fully white after 24hrs its cooked as the vinigar breaks the protein bonds chemically cooking the meat and is ready to enjoy with crackers and beer. Enjoy

Alright we have been approved for our certificate of operation for "Twitch" a little 5.8m flats and sheltered water boat we purchased to focus on the guys that want do a more personal guiding experience. Being affordable for 1 but comfortable fishing 2 adults plus guide its going to be a good boat for us. We have had it approved for night operations as well, so that will help for the hot summer evening sessions down on the impoundments. I was lucky enough to get to take it out just before season close and have a solo session breaking the boat in with its first Salty Metery under my ownership at 102cm. Its been hard to keep this under wraps but it's time to let the cat out of the bag. We still have that 5 day trip free in February so get in touch and let's go and try and get you one. 🎣
