Amazing achievement can’t wait to see what comes next! 🚁

Congratulations to Ray Cronin, Kestrel’s founder and Managing Director, on his recognition in the 2024 Australia Day Honours List.

Ray has been recognised with the Order of Australia (OAM) for his significant contribution to the aviation industry over his near 50-years of involvement in the sector.

Having founded Kestrel in 1985 as a training school, he has overseen its transition into an internationally recognised leader in the aerial firefighting and emergency management sector with an impressive fleet of Australian owned specialist helicopters.

Throughout his career, Ray has also been a constant contributor to improving the safety of helicopter operations in the country through inputs to government and regulatory committees (including CASA’s Aviation Safety Advisory Panel), and currently represents the interests of the Australian helicopter industry domestically and internationally as the President of the Australian Helicopter Industry Association.

We have been hard at work partnering with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES in supporting Far North Queensland communities impacted by the unprecedented flooding in the aftermath of ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

As part of the response, we've deployed one of Kestrel Aviation's Bell 212 helicopters (HT344) to the region to assist with passenger carriage and internal/external cargo movements to communities in need.

We continue to respond to requests from emergency services, and where possible will help our local community in any way that we can. If you have a specific aerial requirement, please contact us and we can discuss options.

Mission Helicopters were engaged by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) today to respond to a distress beacon off the coast of Mission Beach. Our team were able to locate the vessel in distress and call in support vessels, Including the Cardwell Coast Guard.

This highlights the importance of always carrying an EPIRB and activating it early when necessary.

We look forward to being in our new facility soon when we will be able to respond to these sort of requests in under 10 minutes instead of the hour it is currently taking us.

Our parent company Kestrel Aviation has had an eventful few days during the recent flooding event - our thoughts are with all of those affected in Victoria as well as NSW and Tasmania as they face the massive challenge of cleaning up, and potentially facing further flooding.

Mission Helicopters is proud to have assisted the Australian Maritime Safety Authority - AMSA with an aerial search and rescue mission in the Coral Sea this afternoon.

Mission Helicopters crew successfully located one of the survivors who had been exposed to the sea elements for over 24-hours after their vessel sank yesterday.

Our Bell 206L3 LongRanger and locally based crew coordinated vessels in the area to the survivors location which then safely recovered him from the water.

Our future specialist aviation facility at Mission Beach will provide search and rescue and other critical missions to the Far North Queensland region.
