This morning I have been reminded of one great trip to a fantastic place on the Eyre Peninsula that we went on last year. Only one of many interesting and historic sites that we can share.

Did you know that we had Cornish miners at Lipson in the 1870's? Just one of the great stories in our history. Soon we will put the story of the Burrawing mine on the Tumby Bay History page, this is very interesting and has taken a lot of research.

Touring on the Eyre Peninsula can take you to fabulous deserted beaches. We recently spent a day on a great little beach enjoying the great views and the interesting rock shapes. If you use your imagination you can see the rocks talking.

We can show you many interesting places to visit on the Eyre Peninsula. This small sample is from a great place you can go to. It is only just the start of winter, the flowers are a bit shy yet, but check out the little native orchids that have started to emerge. There is so much to see if you take the time.

Exploring the Eyre Peninsula with Touring on Eyre. There are many great places to visit.
There are no physical tours at the moment, but we can show you some great places to visit
on the Eyre Peninsula.
A day trip to Sheringa, and coming home along the fabulous Nowhere Else road. Bitumen to Mount Hope. Travel north on the Flinders Highway; enjoy the scenery, lakes, Sheoaks, Tea Trees and limestones. Sheringa’s shop is a great place to stop for a coffee break or a meal. Explore the history, you may strike a local at the shop to have a yarn.
There is a good dirt road to Sheringa beach, and then you can follow the road north along the cliffs. There are some great parking spots where you can watch the surfers or walk down to the sandy beaches.
Back to the Flinders highway, maybe you have time to travel a few kilometres north toward Elliston, check out those fantastic stone fences. From Sheringa you can head back east on the Nowhere Else road, through station country. More stone fences. When you come to the little hut at Nowhere Else, you’re there (Nowhere Else). There is a track there that goes south toward Kapinnie, that’s the Douglas well road, and it is another great drive for another day. You may need to ask for permission to use that track. The Nowhere Else road continues eastward through interesting country and meets the Tod highway at Tooligie, but you won’t get a coffee there.
This is a great one day trip, there is lots to see if you take your time.

Leaving early from Tumby Bay visiting Lipson, Ungarra, Moody Tanks, Stokes Church, Provis Memorial , Yallunda Flat, Koppio, Tod Reservoir, Pillaworta Weir, Bailla Hill. We supply tea and coffee, morning and afernoon snacks. guests need to bring their own lunch.

Tumby Bays’ intriguing history.
Did you know that we had a police station at Salt Creek with three mounted policemen stationed there in 1850? Did you know that the town of Tumby was once a scattered collection of houses about seven kilometers from the present town? Did you know that in 1850 there was a village in our nearby hills with about one hundred people living there? Did you know that the second Governor of South Australia rode through and explored our area on horseback in 1840? Did you know that all of the catchment for the Tod reservoir is in our council area, but we were one of the last towns on Eyre Peninsula to get water from the Tod?
