At age 5, my prep teacher entered one of my paintings into a local community art show, in which I proceeded to win!From that day, I feel I have always had a pencil or paintbrush in my hand. After my 3 children came along my passion became stronger. Painting things for kinder and school fetes. In 1996 I started classes with various teachers, learning many new techniques and skills, one of which was

Jan Shaw and using Mother of Pearl. Mother of Pearl has become a distinct part of my paintings. In 1997 I began teaching and still teach four classes a week in my home studio in Tyabb, Victoria, Australia. I also love to travel teach and have been lucky enough to have taught all around Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Now I am also enjoying doing FB Lives and Zoom classes and teaching people from all over the world. I hope you enjoy browsing my Etsy Shop, KarenBrouwerDesigns and seeing available e-patterns. Exciting news ! Plans for the Pacific Decorative Painters Expo In Clackamas, Oregon, April 23-26, 2025 are underway.
The catalogue isn’t ready yet but I am able to share the pieces I will be teaching at this wonderful convention.

Okay I did it again, not one photo was taken of my classes and time at OKC Painting Palozza. I really need to do better next year !!!
Thank you firstly to Darla Foreman and family, Janette Ward and family, Cindy Makowski and Walt, this truly was one of the most fun and friendliest conventions I have ever been too, thank you so much for all the effort you put into making this such a wonderful event.
Thank you to all the students that choose to paint with me, I want you all to know it truly means the world to me.
Thank you to Pinecraft Inc not just for suppling me with the best wood but for always being there for me ! Your support and your friendship means the world to me.
Thank you to DecoArt and Rosemary Reynolds for suppling all the best paints in the world for the classes, I am so blessed that I have your continued support, enjoy your retirement Rosemary you will be so missed.
Thank you to Shannon Miller for sharing with me and putting up with this crazy Aussie. You are the best!
Thank you Tami Hall Carmody for getting my stuff from LA to OKC and for allows having my back.
This year seemed a very special year to me, spending time with fellow teachers which I never seem to have time to do and with very special friends I have made over the years and getting to make many new friends.
I feel so so blessed.
I should also thank you my amazing family , Harry Brouwer, Monique Reid, Talia Brouwer, Ebony Brouwer and my sons, son in law and grandchildren for letting me have this time away, I love you all so much.
If I have forgotten anyone I am so sorry.
I already can’t wait till next year !!

Wow I can’t begin to tell you what a wonderful time I had at my first PCDP Expo in Clackamas Oregon. It certainly will not be my last.
Firstly Thank You to all the wonderful ladies that chose to spend their time painting with me. You have no idea what it means to me and how much I appreciate your support but most of all I appreciate the friendships made.
It was so wonderful seeing friends whom I haven’t seen for years, it made my heart so full and happy.
Many thanks go to these amazing people ,
Georgia Magarrell and Monica Bayness for organising such a fabulous convention.
Rosemary Reynolds and DecoArt for supplying all the rpdocts for my 4 classes.
The Pinecraftinc Team, Doug, Jade, Diane Miller, Stephanie, Kyle and of course the gorgeous Lily , I appreciate everything you do for me and I am so grateful to be part of the Pinecraftinc family.
Jill Fitzhenry and Dynasty for supplying me with my favourite brushes.
To Judie Goldstein, Tammy Mannon and so many other wonderful friends who always have my back and are always there for me. I couldn’t do this without you all.

I think I am having too much fun designing these owls !
With so many free classes around I am so so thankful to everyone that has joined this club.
Each month we Zoom and paint 3, yes that’s right 3 owls and the class is recorded. You also will receive bonus patterns that will never be released.
Plus we have a private FB group where lots of free patterns and videos will be shared as I really want this club to be about friendship , a special place where we share ideas and just be together, having a HOOT of a GOOD TIME
It’s not too late to join the fun, I would love you to be part of the
Thanks For Owl You Do Club, I feel it’s my way of being able to thank everyone that has supported me over the years and in the years to come.

Thanks for Owl You Do Owl Club.
11 months of painting owls , there will be 42 owls, including ones that will never be released and only available if you join the club.
First class is 9 th Feb , then they are every second Friday of the month.

I am so so excited to be teaching these 3 projects at OKC Painting Palooza 2024!!! Away in a Manger is a musical turntable, Wonderland Snowglobe is a wooden 3D Snowglobe, the start of my StoryBook Series and a great piece to learn Zhostovo painting in Metallics.
I am holding the release of these pieces till Portland 2025.
After OKC they will be available as seminar and Zoom classes.
Sure hope you can join me.
