✨ Star Rating Explained ✨

What does a hotel star rating actually mean? The hotel star rating measures and evaluates the features and amenities a hotel or resort offers to give guests a picture of what kind of services and offerings they can expect to receive during their stay. It doesn’t necessarily measure the quality of the service, but rather tells you the level of service and amenities you may receive.

For example, at a 3 star resort you may receive excellent service from the front desk or cleaning staff but these properties don’t offer a higher level of service such as valet parking, butler/concierge service. Alternatively, you may have had a really delicious meal at your 4-star resort restaurant but the restaurant wasn’t a gourmet or Michelin star restaurant that you would see offered at a 5-star amenities resort. Also even 5-star resorts can have poor quality of service, food and cleanliness.

It’s also important to consider that there isn’t a standard international star rating system and each destination you travel to will have their own star rating system and it will mean something different there. A 4* resort in Cuba is not equivalent to a 4* resort anywhere else in the Caribbean and would be closer to a 2-3*.

How does working with a travel agent help? Easy, we comb through your wish list and can narrow down resort options for you based on what you’d like PLUS have access to reviews about quality of food, amenities and service from clients and other agents.

A good or very good 4 or 4.5 star property might be better than a not so great 5 star. But more than that, a 4 star might be better for you and your vacation style - it’s how we help you plan the perfect vacation because we’re the experts. We’ve sold 4* properties that end up being perfect for our clients because it fit their needs and it may end up saving you money!

Last week, agent Kelly travelled to the beautiful Belize 🇧🇿 and Guatemala 🇬🇹 on a small group tour with G Adventures. This tour was a FAM trip that hosted 15 travel agents from across Canada to learn more about travelling with G.

G Adventures is the leading company in small group tourism. G encourages people to “Embrace the Bizarre” by creating itineraries that allow travelers to not only immerse themselves in the local culture but also try things they wouldn’t normally do. More importantly though, G Adventures prides itself on creating a positive impact on local communities by uplifting them through tourism.

Highlights from Kelly’s trip include:

✨ 1 night stay in Belize City; 2 nights on the Isla de Flores, Guatemala; 2 nights in San Ignacio, Belize and 3 nights on the island of Caye Caulker, Belize

🛕Guided tour of Tikal National Park and the Mayan ruins

🌄 Guided cave tubing tour of the Nohoch Che’en caves

🚲 Participation in the Planeterra project called Bike with Purpose. Local high school students toured the agents around the island of Caye Caulker

🤿 Snorkeling tour of the Hol Chan Marine Reserve which is home to the world’s second largest barrier reef
