Over the past few weeks, the Wimmera Mallee has felt the impact of bushfires in the Little Desert National Park. But this is a place that knows how to heal. The land is strong, the people are resilient, and recovery has already begun.
The Wimmera Mallee has always been a place of resilience. It’s written into the sweeping plains, the ancient mallee trees, and the people who call this region home.
Out in the bush, the first signs of renewal will come quietly. Tiny green shoots pushing through blackened sand, the call of a bird returning to a familiar place, the promise that, in time, the Little Desert will bloom again.
Right now, the best way to support the region is to visit. The heart of the Wimmera Mallee is still here, in the welcoming country towns, the silos standing tall against endless skies, the golden sunsets stretching over the plains. Come for a meal at the pub, stop in at a local bakery, take the time to soak in the wide-open beauty of this place.
The Wimmera Mallee is open, and we can’t wait to see you soon. ❤️
The western block of the park remains open and unaffected. Other parts of the Little Desert National Park remain closed while it recovers. To stay updated on reopening and conditions, visit Parks Victoria https://www.parks.vic.gov.au/places-to-see/parks/little-desert-national-park
