OUT OF RANGE 📞 As our name clearly states, we are all about nature connections and looking back we have created some incredible ways to experience our region.
We hope these few memories immediately make you feel better and get you ready to be back out there in 2022.
It’s time to get away from the constant mobile phone calls or email alerts. You can’t feel guilty or worry about unreturned messages, if you don’t receive them. So often guests tell us, they love our off grid events because no one can reach them. That’s real freedom.
Set your out of office and we can help you disappear, It really is that easy

BEYOND THE CELLAR DOOR 🍇
Working in the local community is very rewarding and our founder, Amanda Fry, is on the committee for the @shfoodwine Association, offering her 30 years of expertise in planning experiences and wining Global Marketing awards as part of the events team. This week that meant being part of the Australian Highlands Wine Awards Presentation Night for 2021 at Centennial Vineyards.
This annual wine competition was judged by an expert panel that included Toni Patterson MW, Rob Geddes MW, Winemaker Aaron Mercer, Wine Writer Paul Diamond and Sommelier Ashlyn Foster.
And open to wines with altitude, growing anywhere across the country at 500 metres or more above sea level.
This year out of 88 medals awarded 41 have been won by Southern Highland entries! Congratulations to @tertiniwines for taking out the Best Dessert Wine and @centennialvineyards for the Best Sparkling with their Blanc de Blancs.
And congratulations to the Southern Highlands Food and Wine Association for a fabulous and well attended evening at Centennial Wines with over 135 guests there on Thursday night.

WATER THERAPY 🍷🛶🍱
Such a lovely few days spent this week with our corporate guests from NSW and VIC who choose picturesque Berrima as the place to disconnect from the office and reconnect as a team.
An action packed 36 hours with our Canoes, Cool Climate Wines & Canapés with @paddleandportagecanoes to kick them into slow mode on the Wingecarribee River.
Then a cocktail masterclass at local favourite @berrimavaulthouse followed by a team dinner prepared by @tommyprosser
Day two started with a morning walk on the Box Vale Track followed by an edible weeds and foraged tea workshop with @quarteracrefarm and lunch by the river.
A wonderful snapshot of what our Top Tourism Town award winning village has to offer and a great way to take some time out, as a business, after a very difficult year for us all #businessevents #berrima

WONDER WALKS 🌳🕊🌸 The upside of the last few months is having a lot more time to really explore our local National Parks and Forests.
Many of our tracks require an experienced guide not only given their local knowledge of flora and fauna but also to actually find and navigate many of the best walks. There are however, a few local favourites that are easy to follow with a few good tips. So once a month we are going to share them with you.
Next time you come down to join us on the Highland Valley Forage or Canoes Cool Climate Wines and Canapés, stay the weekend and go exploring.
The first is the BOX VALE TRACK which is a breathtaking meander through gullies and creek beds following the old railway line that operated between 1888 and 1896 moving coal from the Nattai Mine.
Local tip | Don’t start at Box Vale Road opposite Artemis Vineyard, instead head down Wombeyan Caves Road, turn right into Kells Creek Road and then right into Morris Road. Its dirt so drive slowly to the end, park and start there. It’s a 2 hour return trip so take snacks and water, it’s worth every step.
Cross the creek, follow the fire trail up the hill and take the first right hand side track just past the picnic table then walk all the way to lookout through the old railway tunnel. It does not disappoint so hopefully my pictures with friends and family from the last few weeks inspire you. And this one you can take your dog on a lead - it’s my beagles favourite weekend adventure.

INTERNATIONAL RED PANDA DAY
Today we celebrate the adorable mammals who live in the trees of the Himalaya Mountains. Why? Well they are not Australian natives but they are one our favourite species to rival the cuteness of a quokka!
Red Panda Facts (that you might not know)
- Their fur is the colour of cinnamon and keeps them warm in cold climates.
- Red pandas eat mostly bamboo.
- They were discovered in 1825, before the giant panda.
- Other names for the red panda include bear-cat, firefox, and Himalayan raccoon.
- Although they resemble raccoons, they have no living relatives.
We hope some light hearted posts in your newsfeed lightens your day. Did you know that we donate to Native Wildlife Rescue for each tour we run - supporting Australian Wildlife?

THREATENED SPECIES DAY 🐨
Australia is home to more than 500,000 animal and plant species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. Threatened Species Day is commemorated across the country today to raise awareness of plants and animals at risk of extinction.
What can you do to help?
Australia has the worst mammal extinction rate of any country in the world, and the catastrophic bushfires of 2019-20 impacted nearly 3 billion animals and have pushed many more of our precious wildlife on the fast-track towards extinction.
Lobby your local, state and federal government to strengthen nature laws, help or volunteer at wildlife rescue organisations or sponsor an Australian animal are just a few ways we can all make a difference.

WOMBAT WEDNESDAY
In a year of uncertainty and cancelled experiences, #WombatWednesday is a lighthearted reminder of the innate toughness of Aussies, and our wildlife too!
Wombat Facts (that you might not know)
- A Group of Wombats is Known As a Wisdom
- Their Butt Is Their Main Form Of Defence
- They Poop In Cubes
We hope some light hearted posts in your newsfeed lightens your day. Did you know that we donate to Native Wildlife Rescue for each tour we run?

FANTASTIC FUNGI 🍄
Calling all Mycophiles (Noun. A person who likes hunting for, cooking or eating mushrooms and other edible fungi)
Those of you who have joined us for our mushroom foraging workshops with Jo @quarteracrefarm you will recognise the Amanita Muscaria here which, whilst toxic for humans consumption, is an indicator species so it tells us edible pine mushrooms are close by.
This new documentary on @netflixanz is a must watch. It shows us just how vast the Kingdom of Fungi is and how little we know about the secrets it could unlock.
Rebirth regeneration rejuvenation - what an extraordinary world that lies beneath us. It’s the Oldest kingdom on earth, it has survived every extinct event, it offers benefits to other organisms around them and can stabilise carbon in soil being a natural engine to combat excess carbon in the atmosphere.
So harvest with respect to maintain the mycelian network for future growth. And if you have not done a wild mushroom workshop -come along next Autumn
For me the biggest take away was Paul Stamets comment ‘We should save old growth forests as a matter of National defence’. They hold the answers to so much we are yet to uncover. I have a new appreciation of the mushrooms in my fridge and the wild ones we pick each year.
Check out Fantasticfungi.com and for the Trekkies amongst you, you will appreciate the character reference in the new Netflix series
