Lameness evaluation & diagnostic imaging 🦴
Our vets can perform lameness examinations at your property or at our practice. During the examination they will assess how the horse moves walking, trotting, lunging and sometimes ridden. They will palpate the horses soft tissue and joints for any abnormalities such as swelling, pain, heat and joint effusion. Flexion tests are also used to assess which limb or limbs are involved. In some cases nerve blocks to localise the point of pain are required.
Once established, diagnostic imaging may be used such as radiology and ultrasonography for the vet to be able to determine the structures involved and diagnose the cause of the lameness. The vet will then recommend appropriate management and/or treatment.
More complex lameness cases may require an in depth investigation.

Maintaining joint health is crucial for equine performance. Joint disease is often a primary cause of lameness in horses across all disciplines.
As you can see in the below video, the colour and viscosity of this thoroughbreds joint fluid is consistent with severe osteoarthritis.

More amazing results! This gelding presented to us with string halt, after nerve blocks the cause was localised to an old injury which resulted in a tear of the extensor tendon. The treatment recommended for this was Shockwave therapy. After three treatments of shockwave two weeks apart, this beautiful gelding is walking at a normal gait and can resume full work. 🤩
Prostride uses the horses own blood to create a concentrated solution of the cells, platelets, growth factors and anti inflammatory cytokines that amplifies the healing process of osteoarthritis. This in turn reduces lameness and can repair joint damage.
Studies show more then 95% of patient that were treated with Prostride had greater then 50% improvement in 2-4 weeks effects lasting up to 12months.
Here is just a few videos of the steps we did to improve this beautiful mare. 🥰
Some of the signs of tight and painful poll muscles in horses can be struggling with head carriage or having difficulty bending.
This mare is enjoying acupuncture and massage on her neck and poll, what a relaxing start to the weekend 😌👌

Here is Dr Tim using the new power tooth float. Super light and easy to use and very effective!
This is actually one of our own horses that needed doing, was done with no sedation which meant we could get a good video and show you inside too!
Tim still uses the hand tools to be certain he gets all sharp points and hooks etc but this machine really does cut down time. As you can see he is always feeling inside and checking what areas need to be addressed.
To get your horses teeth done please contact to make a booking! 😊🦄😬
Has your horse been having trouble eating? Dropping food when eating (quidding) your horse might be due for a dental. We recommend dental examinations to be preformed at least every 12 months ☺️🐴
