Celebrating William’s incredible fundraising effort. 🎉

William is a Bedford Packaging employee, participates in our Social Saturdays program and is also a train enthusiast.

On a recent Social Saturdays outing to the Cockle Train, William presented $800 that he raised for the restoration of Steam Locomotive 520 to the Steamranger Heritage Railway, South Australia.

They will be using William’s donation to help them finish off work on 520’s boiler, which they are aiming to complete by July.

Congratulations, William for contributing to the preservation of important history! 🚂🤩

Please note, due to a Total Fire Ban being declared for the Mount Lofty Ranges, Cockle Train services on Saturday the 4th of January will be hauled by Diesel locomotive 844.

New Six Train Cockle Train Timetable!

From December 27th until January 3rd, we will be running SIX return trips between Goolwa and Victor Harbor.

This year’s yellow timetable is slightly different to previous years, so take a close look at departure times in the image below or on our website.

Tickets for The Cockle Train can only be bought at Goolwa, Port Elliot or Victor Harbor stations on the day of travel, for that day of travel and cannot be sold in advance.

We look forward to seeing you all on the south coast this summer!

Notice: Cockle Train 15/12

Due to the forecast temperature for Adelaide and Victor Harbor being over 35°C, all Cockle Trains have been cancelled.

Cockle Train services will resume on Wednesday 18/12

This weekend is the beginning of our intensive summer operations along the South Coast between Goolwa and Victor Harbor, with the Southern Lights Specials.

Extra train services will be operating throughout the days and evenings so take extra care at level crossing, obey the road signs, and always assume a train is approaching.

From all the volunteers, thank you - and together we'll have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year!

Brochure Cover photo competition!

We are looking for a new cover photo for our 2025-2026 brochure!

There are two types of photos we are looking for:
- Shots of our trains journeying through the Adelaide hills or along the South Coast, with plenty of back ground to show the areas we travel through.
- And pictures of our passengers, families and large groups, enjoying their day out onboard one of services.
See examples in the collage below.

If you think you have something matching one or both of the above descriptions, then send them through to [email protected]

If your photo is chosen to be on the front page of our next brochure, we will send you one of the first prints of the brochure, along with a Family Ticket which can be redeemed to travel on the Highlander or Cockle Train in 2025.
Other submissions may be kept on hand and used in other places of the brochure, or throughout the year to create other media, posters and advertising for SteamRanger.

All photos used will be given credit where due and not used for another purposes than advertising SteamRanger services by anyone else other than SteamRanger Media team.

THIS WEEKEND ONLY, A DEAL TOO GOOD TO MISS!

On November 24th, travel from Strathalbyn to Mount Barker and return for half the price of the usual fare!

Jump on board our Red Hens as they travel back to Mount Barker after dropping the Vigneron Race Trains passengers off in Strathalbyn.

In Mount Barker, enjoy lunch in one of the many hotels or bakeries or enjoy some shopping in the local precinct while our Red Hens operate the Bugle Ranger.

After lunch, jump back on board as our Red Hens make their way back to Strathalbyn to pick Vignerons Race Train Passengers
