Some good news from our Mount Barker depot team yesterday.
Steam Locomotive 621 underwent a steam test to check that components and appliances, such as safety valves, tubes and superheater elements, were in working order after a long period of dry storage and maintenance.
The steam tests were a success and now the next step in the process to returning The Duke to the rails will be putting the pistons back in and performing track tests!

Happy 60th Birthday 844!
Happy 60th Birthday 844!
Here's a taste of what's to come this summer!
Tuesday was another busy day at SteamRanger’s Mount Barker depot, with diesel locomotive 704 arriving for a new life on our railway!
We thank our generous supporters at Aurizon, RJE Global, Workzone Traffic Management, Load 28 and Rail First for their contributions to make this possible!
More great news from our Mechanical Services team today, with Rx207 returning to steam after having new steam pipes and new superheater elements installed.
Rx207 was sidelined at the start of 2022 due to a failed steam pipe, with replacements having to be specially fabricated for SteamRanger.
Rx207 will soon be returning to service, and we are expecting for her to be ready to haul Cockle Train services as we enter the busy summer period!
Great work to all involved!
She’s alive! After just over 12 months of work, Diesel 844 hit a massive milestone today, with the first starting of her engine whilst undergoing restoration with SteamRanger!
