The Easter holiday was the perfect time for our staff to take a break and spend time with their families. They travelled near and far to enjoy their time off.

Claire visited the family vineyard in Taggerty, at the base of Mount Cathedral.
Shae’s annual family camping at Bonegilla was a great together and a lot of fun.
Bree took the family to the beautiful Wilson Promontory.
Linda combined her break with camping and fishing at McGaurans Beach before visiting more family in WA, a highlight there being the Granite Skywalk, Castle Rock.
Jo was able to relax at the Tenenungan Waterfall in Bali.
While Krystal’s family meet the easter bunny in Phillips Island.

We hope everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful weather and a whole lot of chocolate 😆

South India with Krystal McCallum
This morning we visited a working Tea Factory in Munnar and learnt first-hand how tea is grown and the various stages of tea production, from plucking and withering to rolling, fermenting, drying, and sorting.
We were able sample a variety of teas, including black, green, and flavoured teas and learnt about the unique characteristics and flavours of each type. - Krystal

South India with Krystal McCallum

We have had a busy few days in Pondicherry, Kumbakonam, Tanjore and Chettinad and Madurai. We have visited many temples with one grander and more amazing than the previous. Visits include the Brihadishwara Temple, Darasuram Temple and Meenakshi Temple. (Unfortunately, there are no photos of the Meenakshi Temple as you are forbidden from taking your phone inside the Temple).

We also tasted lots of yummy cuisine along the way. It is amazing how each place serves their food a slightly different way and use different spices in each dish. Stopping at a local market today we were able to see where the locals get their supplies. - Krystal

South India - Krystal McCallum
Day 2-3
We visited the UNESCO World Heritage listed site the “Shore Temple”. It is believed that originally there were seven temples, however six of them were destroyed by the natural elements of erosion.

This afternoon we visited Pondicherry, a city with a fascinating history closely tied to the French. The town is divided into two distinct settlements, the French section on the east side of the canal and the Tamil section on the western side.

What visit to India wouldn’t be complete without a visit to a local market.- Krystal

South India – Krystal McCallum

After a pleasant flight via Bangkok with Thai Airways, we arrived in Chennai late last night. This morning we were straight into sightseeing visiting the Kaaraneeswarar Temple, which is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva.

We were also lucky enough to visit San Thomas Church, officially known as St Thomas Cathedral Basilica. It houses the tomb of St Thomas, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament.
There are only three churches in the world that are known to be built over the tombs of Jesus' apostles: St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City (St. Peter), Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Spain (St. James the Great), and San Thome Church in Chennai, India (St. Thomas).

More exploring tomorrow enroute to Pondicherry - Krystal

Senior Travel Consultant, Krystal McCallum is off to explore the vibrant and picturesque region of South India, touring with India Unbound

South India is a mystic and magnificent destination that combines bright colours, fascinating cultures, and beautiful landscapes all largely undiscovered by tourists.

Krystal will discover lush tea plantations, visit majestic temples and World Heritage sites, safari parks, bustling markets, and enjoy visiting a multitude of enchanting villages nestled along the way.

Each state in South India has a distinct historical background and cultural identity, with none more contrasting than the southern most states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, which exhibit different languages, cuisine, temples, climate, and landscapes – though one thing that runs true through both states is the friendly and hospitable nature of the Tamils and Malayalis (people from Kerala).

Fri 21 Feb
We sadly departed the Ngorongoro Crater this morning and drove through to Tarangire National Park with a shopping stop along the way! The accommodation here is spectacular. Afternoon game drive featured fabulous elephants and giraffes and a leopard in the grass which was too far away to see properly. Off to our last hotel tomorrow in Arusha.
