The best times to view wildflowers along the Wheatbelt Way will be from July to September! Flowers will be at their best from mid-August when the weather warms up through to mid-September (before it gets too hot) with different species putting on their displays over the season.

We have Garron, currently flowering at Sanctuary. It’s good to know not to take it inside, and lovely to read up on it from a First Nations perspective.

It’s that time again so I thought I’d reshare for those who don’t know 💛 I know your tempted, it’s flowering everywhere right now… and looks so gorgeous💛 GARRON( Wattle) season is upon us. But if you believe in a little magic then you must listen to my Elders and my late Auntie Lennah♥️ a senior Bunurong Elder, she told us that we were never to bring GARRON into the house. It was to be hung on the door, outside the house, where it would keep the bad spirits away. If you bought it inside then you would get bad luck. The GARRON is a very important plant to Bunurong people, not only for food and medicine but also for bush dye,wood and a thousand other things.I tell many stories of this tree but today I wanted to share this tiny part of its story. For those that love the language. GARRON is a Kulin word and means Wattle in general. GARRONG is Black Wattle(Acacia Mearnsii) In Bunurong -MURYAN:Silver Wattle( Acacia Dealbata) WARRA’WOORAP:Green Wattle(Acacia Decurrens)BURNA’LOOK:Blackwood(Acacai Melanoxylon)Enjoy the sunshine it brings right now as GARRON tells us the season is turning, soon it will be PAREIP(Spring)

There are a multitude of reasons businesses run from home will have house rules. These are ours…

Serenity Cottage is a place to relax.
No pets
No parties
No smoking
No children (under 12)

… yes, it’s blunt. That’s because sadly we still have people who believe they are above other peoples rules in their own home.

It’s unfortunate but I’ve had to take the ‘hammer it home’ and ‘make it crystal clear’ method.

This was in 2017. The creek can flood overnight, regardless of the Avon flooding if we have enough rain up in the hills.

This flooding is also the reason we request that our guests park behind the cottage, as egress to and from their is easier and safer.
