Attention to you all you Dahlia lovers! 🌸🌻

Dahlia farm open days 2025!!

We are excited to share our open day dates for this season!

Come along and bring your friends to walk amongst the thousands of Dahlias here in Gellibrand! With so much to do and see in our beautiful region make it a day/weekend away.

We do like to remind everyone that we are a working farm, and our Dahlias are grown specifically for tuber sales, we do not stake our plants and prefer to keep them from growing exceedingly tall.

Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash, please keep in mind livestock are on the farm and please clean up after them.

There is no picking of the flowers (please keep children supervised) but we will have bunches available for purchase as well as potted Dahlias for sale.
If you would like to purchase Dahlia blooms by the stem, please contact us prior to visiting so we can have your blooms cut for you the morning of your visit.

While we do have seats and picnic tables spotted around we don't have facilities on the farm. Public toilets are in the Rex Norman park which is straight across the road from our entrance. There are also barbecue facilities available there, otherwise grab a meal at the Gellibrand pub or Gellibrand store, both within easy walking distance of the Dahlias.

Open days are 10am to 4pm Fridays through to Sundays.

Dates open:

Saturday 22/03
Sunday 23/03

Friday 28/03
Saturday 29/03
Sunday 30/03

Friday 04/04
Saturday 05/04
Sunday 06/04

Sunday 13/04

Friday 18/04

🐂 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: HOMEBUSH PASTORAL FARM 🐂

At Homebush Pastoral, farming isn’t just a tradition—it’s a way of life, passed down through three generations since 1952. Nestled along the stunning Lake Corangamite, we champion regenerative agriculture and biodynamic farming, ensuring our land and livestock thrive in harmony with nature. 🌿✨

Our self-replacing British breed herd is raised with care—nurtured on mothers’ milk, lush pastures, herbs, and shrubs, free from artificial fertilisers and feedlots. The result? Nutrient-dense, flavour-packed beef from our prized milk vealers, enriched by volcanic soils and natural biology. 🥩🌱

We are proud to be transitioning to Demeter Australia biodynamics and joining a decentralised paddock-to-plate system—ensuring quality, sustainability, and transparency for our customers.

Summer in the Otways…

Long, warm days roll into spectacular sunsets and deliciously mild evenings, as the green foothills slowly change to a golden brown.

You’ll see farmers cutting and bailing hay into the night, some of them transforming their harvest into festive sculptures to see in the holidays. Potato farmers are also busy in the warmer months planting crops for the autumn harvest.

The buzz returns to our villages and towns as beach crowds seek respite in cool valleys or a quick dip in one of the chilly waterfalls.

Pick-your-own berry farms are bursting with ripe fruit and there’s nothing better than taste testing a perfect sun-kissed raspberry before filling your bucket.

Vineyards are also lush and green, as new season grapes ripen in the sunshine in preparation for autumn’s vintage.

Outdoor tables at pubs, cafes and restaurants are prime real estate. Summer is a wonderful time to explore the Otways, as the spring mud dries out to allow regular
cars back on the windy bush tracks.

Visit the makers and growers along the way and find a shady spot for a picnic to sit and enjoy the Otways…

A Friendly Reminder for Safe Driving in the Otways

Whether you’re lucky enough to call the Otways home or are visiting this stunning region, we kindly ask all drivers to stay safe and focused on the roads. Here are some important tips:
• Keep a Safe Distance: Avoid tailgating; allow plenty of space between your car and the one in front.
• Follow Speed Limits: Stick to posted speed limits—they’re there to keep everyone safe.
• Stay in Your Lane: Drive in the middle of your lane and avoid crossing the center line.
• Avoid Unsafe Stops: Please don’t pull over in areas without room for others to pass safely, especially to take photos.
• Watch for Wildlife: Be extra cautious at dawn and dusk when wildlife is most active.
• Respect the Environment: Don’t litter or leave rubbish in overflowing bins where native animals can get into it.

In just the last two days, I’ve witnessed four near-misses on our roads. Let’s work together to keep this beautiful area safe for everyone—residents, visitors, and wildlife alike.

Wishing you all a happy and safe time as we roll into the new year!
