Personal branding headshots, this shot was taken as part of a demonstration of how a simple lighting setup can make all the difference to the perception of your brand.

Kaleb kindly volunteered to be our male model for this, he gave a us a wide range of looks, I suspect that he really wants to be a model.

What are your photos saying about you and your brand?

With a headshot that has high production standards you can make sure that your customers see a business they can thrust. It conveys to them that you are professional, competent in everything you do.

You only get one first impression.

Danielle dreaming of Tall Ships

Daniel and I recently got to participate in a workshop and built some cardboard tall ship sculptures under the guidance of visiting artist Kiel Johnson from Los Angeles.

The workshop was organised by the lovely Danielle Minett. Danielle created about 20 tall ships before the workshop and even though she used the same templete they all had a different look and feel as she added her very own special touch to each of the ships.

We wanted to take a portrait of Danielle in the Watt Space Gallery. Danielle is very involved with the Watt Space gallery, a contemporary art space in the CBD of Newcastle and often curates exhibitions there so what better way than to portray her in her space amongst her creations.

It was a fun shoot and Danielle is quite bubbly and always smiling so it was a challenge getting her not to smile for the photo shoot.

Doing a recce for prop materials at the local building recyclers.

This week we went to our local building recyclers to look for some props. We were amazed at how much materials they had - everything you could think of - doors galore, bath tubs, sinks, fences, roof tiles, very old bricks as well as modern ones, floor tiles in all shapes and sizes. All fairly well organised which made it nice to stroll around looking at their collection.

We came home with a few nice pieces. Would love to hear from you about any good recycling places that you have come across.

We had so much fun making cardboard tall ship sculptures under the guidance of LA artist Kiel Johnson. We were surprised at how easy they were to make.

Daniel and I were lucky to attend a hands on workshop on how to build tall ship sculptures with cardboard. It was organised by the lovely Danielle Minett, who brought over well known artist Kiel Johnson from Los Angeles. The class was a lot of fun. Whilst some templates were provided, others chose t...

This is a short video about a group portrait that we recently shot for the centenary of the Wyong District Pioneers Association.

The video follows the creation of the portrait from shot day to the unveiling at Alison Homestead.

Back to business as usual, or maybe not the usual but certainly interesting.

Now that things have settled down with Daniel's exhibition PRISM, has wrapped up for the year, we turn our attention back to the some new projects. Steadily we are offering more video, visually there are a few similarities to stills and video although the approach to each is very different the princ…

Getting ready for a solo exhibition can certainly take a lot of time, it feels as though I finally get my weekends back.

Is there anything more time and energy consuming than a solo exhibition? I guess the answer is yes, but in terms of photographic related activities I haven't come across too many others For the past two months I have been pulling long days to get things ready for a show that will travel from Wyong,…

The number of great images that have come out of this job is perhaps one of the greatest pleasures that I have had working outdoors in a long time. Even though these photos were taken in the summer where shooting for the best light meant getting up very early, the sun often came up just after 5:30 a…

Looking towards Avoca from Terrigal for Raine & Horne.

Getting up before sunrise in the summer may seem like it may be easier to do than in winter, especially when the temperature is as cold as this morning. However when sunrise is around 5:30 and you have to get up at least an hour earlier to be ready, it kind of evens things out a little. Still with results like this, it's worth the effort.

When shooting we are always aware of the risk of data loss, so we always have to keep some kind of backup strategy in place all the time. All our cameras have either dual memory cards inside them to back up in camera or are backing to a computer as we shoot. Musician Peter Gabriel even while he's recording does a pretty thorough job of backing up too! Check out his rig in the photo below.

Black and White may not get much use in the advertising world these days but there are times when it's the best way to shot something, especially when they are 80 megapixel panos.

As part of the Raine & Horne campaign we were given a shot list of specific locations to shoot, but there were also some shots that the client asked for that they left open to our interpretation. This are usually the most fun to shot as you get to use your imagination a lot more. The campaign sent u…

Take a look at our latest post about a campaign that took us up and down the Central Coast.

It's been a while that we have been able to share these photos with you but at last the embargo has lifted so we can talk about it now!  The campaign was shot over a 4 week period and took us from a few locations in South Sydney and all the way up to the parts of the Hunter region, but the real trea…

We have recently added a new website to our offerings, food photography by Christine Arnaldi.

Christine has been working in food styling and food photography for a few years now, it takes time to build up a portfolio of well conceived food imagery and now we are ready to promote her unique skills in the studio and on location. Food styling is a very important part of shooting food for motion and stills, it is a specialty in itself with food stylists working along side photographers so it's unusual to find someone that is both a photographer and a stylist.

Christine has studied food styling for motion and stills directly under Denise Vivaldo who is one the most prominent food stylists working in the US. This unusual combination of photographer and food stylist gives Christine the ability to realise her creative vision on multiple levels.

In addition to her food photography her new website also showcases her other passion of landscape photography.

You can check out her site at www.christinearnaldi.com
