We offer kayaking and stand up paddle board sessions ranging from a 3hr session for beginners through to full day guided tours. Moonriver is a 326 acre working cattle property located in the picturesque Yarras valley on the upper Hastings River, New South Wales. Moonriver operates as a mixed business and Mick and Nerida (Protty & Ned) welcome you to Moonriver Paddle after drought, fire, virus and
floods placed strain on the paddle plans. The basic paddle packages are as follow.
* 3.5-4 hour Self Guided Paddle from Ellenborough Reserve to Long Flat. Considered the easiest Paddle available, participants can expect a number of easy rapid sections while having the opportunity to relax and hone some skills on open water sections. SUGGESTED SKILL LEVEL = Novice+
Cost = $80 per person, minimum of 6 required for a booking.
*6 hour Guided Paddle from the Moonriver property to Long Flat. This paddle contains lots of rapid sections to get the adrenaline flowing, while the rapid sections would still be considered easy by most there are a number of permanent flood rubble structures etc that are worthwhile knowing about, hence the need for a guide. You can expect to see abundant wildlife and enjoy plenty of deep water swimming hole options before arriving at Long Flat for a well earned refreshment. SUGGESTED SKILL LEVEL = Intermediate+
Cost = $120 per person, minimum of 6 required for a booking.
*8+ hour Guided Paddle from Yarras bridge on Forbes River Rd to Long Flat. Not for the faint hearted or first timer, paddlers will spend a full day navigating rapids, negotiating fallen trees, submerged rock formations, flood rubble and metre wide sections of fast flowing river. The wildlife and scenery is well worth the effort and the satisfaction of knowing you have paddled from the "Bridge to Fridge" is something to be proud of. SUGGESTED SKILL LEVEL = Intermediate+ with an average to above fitness level and the right attitude. Cost = $160 per person with lunch and snacks provided, minimum of 6 required for a booking.
*What if i have never paddled before? All of our paddles are "down river" which means they are not suitable for a return against the flow of the river, in other words, there is no coming back. Therefore it is important that all participants have at least a basic knowledge and understanding of single seat kayaking and control methods. If you have never paddled before or are unsure of your skill level please get in touch with us so we can help build your skills and confidence so you can better enjoy the Moonriver paddle experience.
* What do I need to bring with me on a paddle? Remember you will get wet, so wear appropriate clothing, bring shoes suitable for walking on wet river rocks (experience has taught us that an old pair of running shoes is best, (definitely no thongs or bare feet), a full bottle of water, appropriate sun protection including sunscreen and a hat, sunglasses, etc. Many have learnt the hard way that legs get sunburnt easily in a kayak so a cheap pair of tights from Kmart under the shorts can save a lot of grief on the longer paddles (yes gents, this is one time you get to slip on some active wear too). Paddling is hardly a spectator sport so wear anything that keeps you protected from the sun and can be worn comfortably all day. Don't forget a dry change for the end of the day for your trip home.
*Whats involved? Depending on which experience you sign up for the travel to/from will be detailed upon your booking. Prior to paddling waiver/indemnity paperwork, equipment checks and safety briefing will be conducted. A competency test will be conducted prior to commencing the trip for guided paddles. A small water tight storage box is provided for each kayak, however it is strongly suggested that due to the replacement cost of electronic car keys, these type of keys be left with Moonriver staff. Laminated maps for the self guided tours are provided, although it is a simple excursion to complete. Do to liability issues, the paddles are for persons 12 years of age or older and persons aged between 12-16 must be accompanied by an adult.
