We are so disappointed for our October trekkers, and our PNG family, that our October trek had to be cancelled due to the ongoing negotiations between landowners and the PNG government. This means our trekking season has finished for 2024! Our October trekkers have been absolutely amazing in attitude and generosity, with some donating their porter fee to the locals, as the porters will find it tough to cope with the season finishing early. Thank you all for such a great year and we look forward to the 2025 season!!

Our August trekkers have done it! They walked under the arches in Kokoda this afternoon having completed 96kms across the Owen Stanley Ranges on a beautiful sunny day! The day started with a memorial service at Isurava to pay their respects to the fallen soldiers of the Isurava Battle. They also inspected the site where Bruce Kingsbury won the Victoria Cross, the only one awarded during the campaign. After the service, they started their walk to Isurava Village and then it was a long downhill stretch through many native gardens into the village of Deniki. Here they stopped to look out over Kokoda and its’ airstrip. They continued down to the beautiful village of Hoi for lunch and a refreshing swim. Then it was only a 6km flat stretch to finally pass under the arches at Kokoda. After high fives and photos, they walked through Kokoda to the plateau where they inspected the battle site and the memorial, to learn about the 39th Bn epic battle to save Australia. Then it was a short walk to their campsite for the night, where they have taken off their boots for the last time and are celebrating with some cold soft drinks, as there is an alcohol ban!! Well done team, you smashed it!

Day 7 and our August trekkers left Templeton’s crossing and made their way to the Eora Creek spur. This is one of the positions where the battle of Eora creek was conducted. There are still visible signs of the Australians defensive positions, the most predominant being a possible Australian mortar position where we will find a recently dug up cache of mortars and grenades. They kept following the spur into Eora creek where they inspected some remaining remnants of Australian and Japanese equipment left after the battle. Leaving Eora Creek, they climbed again up a steep open section to the beautiful village of Alola. Here they stopped for a well-deserved lunch cooked by our amazing porters. After a good rest and a hearty lunch, they continued to inspect Cons Rock, where surgeries were performed during the campaign. Then it was an easy short walk into the Isurava Battle site where they had a look at the pillars and enjoyed the views down the valley. They will camp there for the night. Everyone is doing well and looking forward to their final day of walking tomorrow!

Day 6 and our August trekkers have arrived safe and well in camp after a relatively easy day on the track. This morning they began with a short walk to Myola Lakes, which was a vital supply drop zone during the Kokoda campaign, then onto Bombers Camp to check out the B25 plane wreck there. They then headed through the Moss Forest, making their way up to the highest point of the track, where there is no view! They continued onto the Kokoda Gap, a reference point used by pilots in the campaign. They stopped at Dump 1 for a swim and some lunch, and maybe a spot of fishing by the porters. After lunch it was a bit further to the campsite at Templeton's Crossing, named after Captain Sam Templeton who was one of the first to be killed during the early stages of the Kokoda Campaign. It was another beautiful day on the track, with no rain!

Day 5 and another big day of 14.5kms, for our August trekkers, having completed the last of the big climbs. They started their morning with a beautiful memorial service at Bridage Hill. On the battle site there are some stakes in the ground where Australians were buried and later relocated to Bomana War Cemetery. After the service they descended into present day Efogi Village which is about the halfway mark. Here they looked through the museum and browsed at the local gifts and produce on offer. Leaving Efogi Village they had a steep pinch up to Efogi 2 Village. After an ascent there is always a descent, and this time it was down to Efogi River before going back up, to the village of Naduri, on the side of the Naduri Range, for lunch. Naduri is where the last Fuzzy Wuzzy Angel was living prior to his death in 2013. After a hearty lunch cooked by our porters they continued up the Naduri Range until reaching the cooler climate of Diggers camp, up in the clouds and their stop for the night. Everyone is doing great and they had another beautiful sunny day!

Day 4 and another big day for our August group having completed 16.5kms. They set out this morning from beautiful Nauro Village down into the Brown River Swamp, which is a nice change from the hills. They crossed the mighty Brown River before heading into Agulogo Village for smoko. After a rest and some fuel they tackled 'the wall', a one hour steep pinch and then further on to the large village of Menari. Menari is famous for the 39th Battalion parade where the troops were addressed by their Commander Lt Col Ralph Honner and congratulated on their efforts. Here they stopped for lunch and a much-needed rest. After lunch they had the steep 3hr incline up to the famous battle grounds of Brigade Hill. There is a memorial here and some stakes in the ground where Australians were buried and later relocated to Bomana War Cemetery. This is their campsite for the night. The group are doing well but are feeling it after a tough day. And there was no rain today!!
