We are proud to announce the opening of the Shoco Sanctuary at Tierra del Sol Golf Course by Iberostar, a dedicated space to protect and preserve Aruba’s beloved national symbol, the Aruba Burrowing Owl (Shoco).

This important initiative began in 2019 and has grown into a remarkable conservation effort over the past five years. In collaboration with Aruba Birdlife Conservation (ABC) and Iberostar, the sanctuary now features 32 artificial burrows, providing safe breeding grounds for the endangered Shoco.

Did you know? 20% of Aruba’s Shoco population now calls this sanctuary home! This makes it a vital part of our island's commitment to biodiversity and sustainability.
Through this project, Iberostar continues its dedication to creating a harmonious balance between tourism and environmental stewardship.

The sanctuary also integrates educational components into the Tierra del Sol experience, offering golfers and visitors the chance to learn about the Shoco and its importance to Aruba. Join us in preserving Aruba’s treasures for generations to come.
