My dear followers, friends and vacationers. I like to share all kinds of info. I share this on all my trips but I’ll share it here now as well, in light of recent events (a drowning) (don’t ask me what happened, I know as much as you and we have equal access to the internet. 😉). Anyway… Boca Grandi is not for swimming. I don’t care if your name is Michael Phelps there are too many other places you can swim.

There’s more than one reason not to swim there.

*Kitesurfers - they’re not all pro’s so there’s risk of being struck.

*heavy currents

*big wild waves

It’s just not worth the risk.

I made this post in response to an online poster who posted a cool find but also shared location. As many of you know, I don’t dig sharing awesome spots online. Pics? Sure, but I always take them so you can’t tell where I am except for in Aruba. There’s a reason for this. Anyway, thought I’d share with you who follow me.

May I express my opinion. This is a suggestion. I know not everyone will agree, but it’s good general practice, believe me, I have seen the results.

This is to whoever reads this.

Please do NOT share locations online, ESPECIALLY when you know the places are less frequented and therefore are pristine and are in the great condition you found it.

It is better to share locations in private if you feel you must.

This is not about keeping it a secret as there are no secrets here, there are just places less traveled and the reason for that is because no one bring attention to them on the internet. Once the internet buzz starts the place gets an influx of heavy traffic. You may argue and say well it’s an already known place and will get traffic anyway… sure… but what’s the rush? In cases like this I’d rather have a trickle of ppl vs a FLOOD of people.

As a sport fisherman and general outdoorsman while I lived stateside this is a GOLDEN RULE, you don’t hotspot. Hotspotting tends to ruin the places. We have done tests before where we would post online where we caught a big fish and we’d go there the next day only to find a bunch of ppl there and sure enough many of them had read the internet post.

Look, I’m a tour guide, I show ppl some of these awesome places and I ask all of them to not disclose. Most of the times we have these places to ourselves. So again, I have nothing against sharing… but there’s a huge difference when you put locations especially less frequented ones on blast online.

Eagle beach, who cares, it can handle it and it’s already on blast. Tres Trapi though, poor place has been “raped” so to speak.

There are many nuggets or gems on this island, keep them awesome by not sharing locations online. Post your pics, keep it a mystery, those who deserve to find it will.

Today once more I was at Tres Trapi and witness abuse once more as 3 dingdongs were harassing a turtle and being loud an obnoxious about it, making light of what the tour guide instructed them while onland.. to keep their distance from the turtles.

Consider my suggestion, I see these places daily and see the changes, especially ones that get heavy traffic due to internet fame.

Today was definitely an interesting day! Had a great tour with Rick and Bruce…. Great adventures…I even managed to pop a tire! (Flats are part of “the game” out back) First 1 in 3 yrs doing this! But I knew it would happen sooner or later as the tires are coming up on needing to be replaced and our terrain can be VERY rugged with sharp rocks. But not to worry, we got this… we had it replaced in about 45 mins with the aid of 2 other tour guides who passed by. A 3rd one came and checked on me. All from different companies…at the end of the day, we all have each other’s back. Be it helping each others guests getting into natural pool or changing a tire, or towing each other out of a situation… I can say, there’s a strong bond between many of us guides, even if we work for competing companies.
