American Kestrel food transfer
Food transfer.
During the nesting period, the male American Kestrel (Kinikini) will provide food to his partner, both for herself and to feed the offspring.
This sequence of 5 photos shows the delivery of an Aruban Whiptail lizard (Kododo).

Mating rituals (in 60 seconds)
This a 1 minute compilation of the courtship display and (post-)copulatory behavior of the Black-necked Stilt.
The actual ritual takes place in about 2 minutes.
Most charming part is act after copulation; the male descends and he then places his wing over her body while crossing bills.
Enjoy and feel free to share.

The best defense is a good offense.
All efforts in digging out a Caribbean Hermit Crab were wasted.
With its strong claw the crab locked itself on the bill of the young and inexperienced Crested Caracara, that anxiously tried to get rid of the discomfort by using its talons to snap off the crab.
When it fell off no further interest was shown, the brave and lucky crab could safely return to its burrow.
Nature never bores me.

Week of the Roseate Spoonbill
Last 2 weeks I spent many hours with the Roseate Spoonbills. Everytime they visit Aruba, I enjoy observing those beautiful creatures. Consequently I took many photos, to share some of them with you I will post each day during this midweek one or more pictures of these pink beauties.

For the last day of the Roseate Spoonbill series I decided to make a compilation of several photos, displayed in an animated slideshow of one and a half minute.
All of these photos are taken during the past two weeks at the Bubali Bird Sanctuary in Aruba.
I hope you enjoyed the week of the Spoonbills, I will focus now on the other migratory birds that start arriving from the north, and of course all other wildlife that may show up in front of my lens.
Feel free to share this video.

Blue-tailed Emerald hummingbird
This is a two+ minutes video of a female Blue-tailed Emerald hummingbird that is finishing her nest. I filmed this from out of my kitchen window a few years back, and I still love to look at it again. She is bringing in little sticks for the contours and strength, but also the fluffy “hairs” of the Melocactus (Turk’s cap) which she uses as lining. After each addition, she stamps with her feet to make it compact and stronger.
