This 3.5 hours guided tour gives you a chance to view some of Aruba's natural beauty, and see some of the endemic animals that call this island home. You will meet your guide right inside your Aruba cruise ship pier. The park is a short 25-minute ride in comfortable transportation. Once you have arrived at Arikok National Park, you will have a chance to explore the Visitor's Center. This sustainably designed modern building includes exhibits of some of the native fauna. Arikok received National Park status in the 1980's. The park is located on the eastern coast of Aruba and covers approximately 18% of the island's area. There are many unusual rock formations and varied terrain ranging from hills to flat desert to tidal pools. Located within the park you can find many caves including Guadirikiri Cave, the Fontein Cave and the Huliba Cave where only guests on guided excursions can view the pre-Columbian ancient drawings on the cave walls. Then, join your friendly local guide as you begin your hike. Indigenous fauna such as the Prikishi (parakeet), Whiptail Lizard and Burring owl are possible to spot in the unique land formations made from limestone, lava, quartz and diorite. Your guide will lead the small group along the trails for an easy paced hike, educating and informing guests about the area. Guests will receive 2 bottled waters along the way. See some of the cave paintings that were created thousands of years ago by the native Arawak Indians. The caves were used as an assembly location, housing and also as a place to hide. Rumor has it that pirates also used the caves to stash treasures but none has ever been found. Keep your eyes open for the Long Tongued bats that make their homes nestled in holes of the caves and once in a while you can see them flying. But now worries, they are harmless and stay close to the ceilings of the caves. Once you guided hiking excursion has come to an end you will board your transportation and be brought back directly to your Aruba cruise ship pier.
