Gobustan & Mud Volcanoes Tour
Duration 5-6 hours

Gobustan is well-known for its perfectly preserved rock paintings - petroglyphs (rock painting by carving) - a kind of artistic "archive" of human evolution on the Earth. Gobustan Rocks are not just the brightest witnesses of the prehistoric period of human existence, but reflect the history of this region for nearly 15,000 years - since the end of the era of the Upper Paleolithic till the Middle Ages. Hitherto, the Azerbaijani scientists have discovered, described and studied more than 4,000 petroglyphs and this significant work keeps going.

Azerbaijan has got about 350 of 800 mud volcanoes of the world. Even the NASA geologists studying Mars planet, concluded that mud volcanoes of Azerbaijan are similar to uplands of the said planet for their structure. On September 5, 2004 the greatest mud volcano in the territory of Azerbaijan was added into the Guinness World Records.
