Icheri Sheher Fortress - Baku Acropolis

 "Baku Acropolis", "Old Town", "Inner City" - as soon as they do not call this unique historical ensemble located right in the center of Baku. "Icheri Sheher" is the heart of the city. It was in this place, on the hill near the sea, ancient Baku was born.

Icheri Sheher is the oldest residential quarter of Baku. In 1977, it was declared a historical and cultural reserve, and in 2000 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Very often Icheri Sheher is called a fortress, as it is surrounded by a well-preserved fortress wall. People in the territory of Icheri Sheher lived in the Bronze Age, and by the 8th-11th centuries it was completely populated.
