An agreement has been signed between Azerbaijani and South Korean Governments ondevelopment of Feasibility Study for the Project of Marine Bridge Construction over Baku Bay.

The purpose of the marine bridge construction over Baku Bay project is to improve transportinfrastructure in Baku City and enrich the experience of Azerbaijani specialists on construction ofmarine bridges and roads by Korean experts.

Bridge over Baku Bay will ease the traffic in the centre of the city and facilitate the movement of

vehicles in a number of directions. In case of construction of Quba-Shamakhi Highway, distancefrom central parts of Azerbaijan to Russian border will be shortened by 156 km, anddevelopment of new infrastructure in that route will increase the touristic potential of the country.

Project area starts at Yasamal Valley, from Badamdar connection of Baku CircularHighway, then extends to 20th area settlement in the east through underneath BadamdarHill (construction of a two-way tunnel is proposed) for 2.3-2.5 km and further proceeds tooffshore part through this areas and Bibiheybat oil field. The Project corridor crossesresidential areas of the 20th area for about 700 m and oil field for 1460 m.

Our project Baku International Sea Trade port

Recent infrastructure developments in Baku City, location of the current seaport in the central, dense part of the city, difficulties for railway and freight vehicles which have to arrive at the seaport crossing central districts of the city, as well as aging of seaport installations, which do not comply with modern standards, limit the seaport operations and reduce its capability. To this end, a need for development of a new seaport has emerged. According to the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan Republic dated to October 18, 2007, the Government of Azerbaijan decided to move Baku International Sea Trade Port (BISTP) near Alat town, located 65 km to the south of Baku. The Ministry of Transport (MT) of the Republic of Azerbaijan is in charge of moving the seaport to its new location. Assessment of Impacts on Natural and Social-Economic Environment (EIA) for the new BISTP Project are performed. EIA identifies potential impacts on natural environment and social situation onshore and offshore during construction and operation phases of the Project. Mitigation of potential negative impacts is also assessed. Mitigation measures are detailed in Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and Environmental Monitoring Plan.
