The Bosna, the largest river flowing entirely within Bosnia and Herzegovina, is home to remarkable biodiversity. Notably, it’s one of the few large rivers in the Balkans free from dams.

With 24 fish species of European importance, including the globally endangered Danube salmon, the Bosna stands out as a vital natural resource, but it is still not protected. By proposing it as an Emerald Site, Bosnia and Herzegovina can ensure its long-term conservation against potential threats.

At the upcoming Bern Convention Standing Committee meeting this December, we call on Bosnia and Herzegovina to commit to expanding the Emerald Network and protecting all precious rivers.
