Have you ever wondered how does the man responsible for capturing war criminals, such as Ratko Mladić and Radovan Karadžić look like?

Well we know, next to our CEO mr. Amar is mr. Howard Tucker (on the right). We had a pleasure of hosting him for three times so far, as he is former Head of mission for the UN International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia (ICTY) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are his contact for Bosnia and Herzegovina and we do all the ground swrvices as well as translations for him.

As part of his former visit, he was hosted by the mayor of Sarajevo where he had such a pleasant discussion and a wonderful welcome.

Currently he is working on a book and a movie and we are so lucky to have the opportunity to be part of it.

Tenećedžije (tinsmiths) appeared at the end of the 19th century. They produced various objects from tin: dishes, lanterns, gutters, stoves, etc. The consumers of their products were the poorest classes.

Skeledžije (Raftmen) operated the skela (raft). A skela is a type of vessel used to transport people, livestock and vehicles across the river. Skeledžije made the crossing from one side of the river to the other by using an oar or a winch to pull the skela from one side to the other. Skela acts as a raft with a flat surface with a fence, and there were also skela's in the form of a larger boat.

Nalčadžije (Ar. - Per. - Tur.) or nalbanti were artisans who forged nalče or horseshoes for horses, metal sole protector heel plates for men's shoes and boots.

Mlinari (degirmendžije) were artisans who worked in the water mill. Advances in technology and modern methods of grain exploitation have almost completely extinguished the miller's craft. Because of this, a small number of these craftsmen belong to the order of followers of the old craft.

Mestvedžije are master craftsmen who make mestve. Mestve are a type of deep footwear made of soft leather with a very thin sole without heels. Dress bare feet and on socks. It serves as a house shoe, and when going out on the street, firale (ancient light shallow shoes), slippers or kaljače (rubber low shoes) are put on. In earlier times, there were also women's mestve.

The mehandžije were the owners of the mehane; innkeepers.
The mehanski trade is among the first trades that were oriented towards the provision of services, rather than production, as is the case with other trades. During the centuries-old rule of the Ottoman Empire in that historical period, the mehana was exclusively available to the Ottomans, i.e. the Muslim population, to drink coffee, tea, sherbe and smoke to***co in it, in accordance with their customs and habits.

Luledžije are artisans who make smoking pipes. A pipe is a device made of baked clay or special types of wood, for filling with chopped to***co and smoking. When cigar paper appeared, luledžije started making small pipes for ci******es. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, before to***co, o***m was used, which came from Macedonia.

Masters kujundžije (Tur. ) - goldsmiths were engaged in making jewelry from gold and silver. Kujundžije made rings, tepeluke (rich ornaments that were put on women's hats), pavte (pavte = pafte, buckles on women's belts made of silver or some other metal, beautifully made and decorated, belenzuke (Tur. - bracelet made of braided chains), halhale (ar. bracelet) etc.

Kasapi or butchers were artisans who were always present. They were engaged in slaughtering cattle and arranging meat, they were in high demand during Kurban Bayram (Eid al-Adha). They sold lamb, mutton, beef and goat meat.

Ekmedžije (bakers) are artisans, masters or workers who were engaged in preparing (making) and baking bread and other baked goods. This craft still exists today, but has lost its old name.

Craftsmen ćurčije (furriers) made luxurious clothing items from fur. Most often, they made a ćurak - a fur cloak, set with sable, intended for the wealthier classes. Fur lined coats (ćurdija), with wide sleeves, lined with velvet or čoha (woolen cloth) on the inside were also in fashion.

Ćumur is a traditional term for charcoal, which is obtained by partially burning wood. Ćumurdžija (charcoal burner) are artisans whose occupation is to manufacture charcoal. The work, depending on the amount of wood, lasted from fifteen to twenty days.

Čizmedžije, the craftsmen and traders who made and sold boots, khuffs (leather socks), moccasins, slippers and other leather footwear. This particular craft was one of the most developed trades in Sarajevo’s old Čaršija and primarily met the needs of the local population.

Čibugdžije or pipe makers were artisans who produced čibuci or pipes. Although the production of ceramic pipes originated from pottery, this was considered as a separate branch of the craft. Čibugdžije or tutundžije were also called guys in castles (prestigious feudal houses) who bring čibuci, pipes, hookahs, light them and add them to the guests, then empty them and refill them.

Buregdžije are master craftsmen who make burek, or pies. This craft has persisted even today. Burek (Turkish börek) is a dish made from dough that is stretched, in Bosnia and Herzegovina is filled with minced meat, but in other Balkan countries burek is common name also for other pies usually filled with cheese, potatoes or spinach.

Bravadžije forged locks, padlocks and keys. They made big and small locks. The first ones were hit on the alley and hall doors, and the second on the bedroom doors.
A street (Bravadžiluk) in Sarajevo is still named after them, where shops and locksmith workshops were concentrated.

Bȍjadžije / Bojàdžije (tur.; painters, painters, dyers - craftsmen who
deal with colors; paint dealers). Master bojadžije were painters, but they also had dyers' shops where they dyed woolen threads with natural colors, which were later used in knitting clothes.

Knives makers or bičakčije appeared in Sarajevo after 1530.
The knives were valued for the type of metal, but also for the production of the scabbard and kavzi (handle fittings).
The Bičakčije were rich artisans, as evidenced by the record that one bičakčija gave money to build a bridge over the Miljacka.

Aščije are caterers, cooks of oriental and domestic dishes who do not specialize in only one type of dish, so it was common in the past that as part of the aščije craft, apprentices studied and later used other crafts related to food preparation.

The barber's craft has its origins in the Berberi craft. The first berbershops were established next to the hammams. In the earliest period, the berbers also engaged in minor medical services, making medicines, and they were also called people's doctors. Today, barbers provide shaving, cutting and hairdressing services.

Riječ je o jedno-lučnom mostu sa dva "oka" (okrugla otvora za poplavu) izgrađenom od krečnjaka. Pretpostavlja se da je izgrađen u 16. vijeku po zadužbini Mehmed-paše Sokolovića, velikog vezira. Po starom običaju, vezire su na ovom mostu dočekivali Age, begovi sa svojom vojskom i zanatlije koji su veziru donosili darove, dok su posjetioce, trgovce i hodočasnike sa hadža dočekivale njihove porodice. Za ovaj most postoji i legenda koja kaže da su dva brata, Sinan i Mehmed, odveli svoju stoku na ispašu kod Jarčedola. Jednog dana, na putu do pašnjaka, koza se zaustavila da se nahrani i iskopala skriveno blago. Braća su se nevjerovatno obradovala što vide bogatstvo i obećali su da će izgraditi most i džamiju.
