The Museum of Literature and Performing Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in the heart of Sarajevo, at Sime Milutinovića Sarajlija 7, in an old family house built in the middle of the 19th century, which was originally owned by the Skarić family and then by the Despić family, whose members donated it Sarajevo.About the Museum:The museum was founded in 1961 as the Museum of Literature, and almost a decade later, in 1970, it expanded its activity to include theater arts. His collection is distributed in 67 literary and 17 theatrical collections, which contain more than 20,000 exhibits.The renovated and expanded Permanent Exhibition of the Museum was opened for visitors, where selected exhibits from the collections of 10 writers, namely Ivo Andrić, Meša Selimović, Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević, Petar Kočić, Isak Samokovlija, Zija Dizdarević, are displayed on two floors.

If you decide to use public city transport, with Sarajevo City Card you will have a free tram, trolleybus, bus and minibus network that will allow you to reach any significant location in Sarajevo. Trams in Sarajevo are a part of the public transport system in Sarajevo, capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The system is run by KJKP GRAS Sarajevo, which also operates trolleybus and bus routes in the city.

As of 2010, the Sarajevo tram system consists of seven lines, running along a single route with a 0.4 kilometres (0.25 mi)-long branch to the city's main railway station (Željeznička Stanica). It primarily serves as an east-west link from the city centre (Baščaršija) to the western suburb of Ilidža.

SARAJEVO CABLE CAR
FREE ENTRY WITH SARAJEVO CITY CARD 🆓️

Trebević cable car, in Sarajevo's jargon known as funicular, was officially opened on May
3, 1959, connecting Bistrik (583 meters above sea level) with Vidikovac on Trebević
(1160 meters above sea level).
The construction of the cable car lasted about a year, but preparations for its construction
began in 1956.
At lower and upper station were built waiting rooms with little bistros, and on the upper
station was built restaurant "Vidikovac". With a length of 2100 meters, cable car on
Trebević was one of the most significant in the former Yugoslavia, and just one of the few
in the world that goes from the center of the city and in 12 minutes leads you into
untouched nature, in oasis of clean air.
During the siege of Sarajevo, cable car, along with lower and upper station, was completely
destroyed.

SARAJEVSKA ŽIČARA
BESPLATAN ULAZ SA SARAJEVO CITY CARD 🆓️

Trebevićka žičara, u sarajevskom žargonu poznatija kao uspinjača, svečano je otvorena 3. maja 1959. godine, a povezivala je Bistrik (583 m/nv) sa Vidikovcem na Trebeviću (1160 m/nv).
Izgradnja žičare trajala je oko godinu dana, ali su priprema za njenu izgradnju počele već 1956. godine.
Na polaznoj i dolaznoj stanici su izgrađene čekaonice sa bifeima,a na dolaznoj stanici na
Vidikovcu kasnije je sagrađen istoimeni restoran. Svojom dužinom od 2.100 metara,
trebevićka žičara bila je jedna od najznačajnijih u bivšoj Jugoslaviji, a jedna od rijetkih
uopće koja polazi iz samog centra grada i za 12 minuta vas dovodi u netaknutu prirodu,
oazu čistog zraka.
Tokom opsade grada, žičara je, zajedno sa polaznom i dolaznom stanicom na Trebeviću,
potpuno uništena.

Sarajevo City Hall, on a global scale, is the most famous Sarajevo building. It is not only
an unmissable detail of most panoramic views of the city, but also a kind of symbol of its
changes. As a town hall, and even more so as the decades-old seat of the National and
University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the City Hall has been the focus of all
important political and cultural events in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina for more
than a century.
It witnessed the change of several state systems, the Sarajevo assassination, the terrible
challenges of the two world wars, the unique rise of the city during the XIV Winter Olympic
Games in 1984 and finally, in the form of a National Library, it was exposed to a
barbaric attack, burning and destruction. It has thus become a modern metaphor for
urbicide, culturicide...

MUZEJ VIJEĆNICA

Sarajevska gradska vijećnica, u globalnim razmjerama, najpoznatije je sarajevsko zdanje.
Ona je ne samo nezaobilazan detalj većine panoramskih prikaza grada, nego i svojevrstan
simbol njegovih mijena. Kao gradska kuća, a još više kao višedecenijsko sjedište Nacionalne
i univerzitetske biblioteke Bosne i Hercegovine, Vijećnica je duže od jednog
stoljeća bila u žiži svih bitnih političkih i kulturnih zbivanja u Sarajevu i Bosni i Hercegovini.
Ona je svjedok smjene nekoliko državnih sistema, Sarajevskog atentata, strašnih iskušenja
dvaju svjetskih ratova, jedinstvenog uspona grada u vrijeme XIV Zimskih olimpijskih
igara 1984. godine i konačno, kao Nacionalna biblioteka, bila je izložena barbarskom
napadu, paljenju i razaranju. Postala je tako savremenom metaforom urbicida, kulturocida...

WHITE TABIJA

The White Tabija is the National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and because of the incredible view from this location, this is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Sarajevo.
The fortress was of great importance for the defense of the city during the attack of the Austrian prince Eugene of Savoy in the 17th century, and the Austro-Hungarian army in 1878. The white tabia is one of the five tabias (fortresses), which formed the defense rampart of the old town of Vratnik.

THE GAZI HUSREV-BEY MOSQUE
FREE ENTRY WITH SARAJEVO CITY CARD 🆓️

This large and beautiful mosque represents one of the most beautiful works of Islamic architecture in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Gazi Husrev-begova, or popularly known as the Beg's mosque, due to its construction, shape and dimensions, represents a work of special interest for the study of Ottoman architecture in our region.
The extraordinary lighting solution of the mosque with 51 windows, 12 of which are lower rectangular, and all the others have an end in the form of a broken arch, gives the impression of a larger space than it is in reality.
On the wall to the left of the main entrance is a levha (a framed quote from the Qur'an). This plaque is over 120 years old, written in gilded letters, and the inscription on the plaque is the credo of Islam, which in translation means:
"There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger!"

GAZI-HUSREV BEGOVA DŽAMIJA
BESPLATAN ULAZ SA SARAJEVO CITY CARD 🆓️

Ova velika i lijepa džamija predstavlja jedno od najljepših djela islamske arhitekture u Bosni i Hercegovini.
Gazi Husrev-begova, ili u narodu poznata kao Begova džamija, po svojoj konstrukciji, obliku i dimenzijama, pedstavlja djelo od posebnog interesa za izučavanje osmanskog graditeljstva u našim krajevima.
Izvanredno rješenje osvjetljenja džamije sa 51 prozorom od kojih su 12 donjih pravougaonog oblika, a svi ostali imaju završetak u obliku prelomljenog luka, daje utisak većeg prostora nego što je u realnosti.
Na zidu lijevo od glavnog ulaza je levha (uramljeni citat iz Kur’ana). Ova levha je preko 120 godina stara, ispisana pozlaćenim slovima, a natpis na levhi je credo Islama i u prijevodu znači:
»Nema božanstva osim Jednog Boga, a Muhammed je Božiji Poslanik!«

THE GAZI HUSREV-BEY MUSEUM
FREE ENTRY WITH SARAJEVO CITY CARD 🆓️

The Museum is dedicated to Gazi Husrev-bey (1418-1542), governor of Bosnia, one of
the greatest builders of Sarajevo, and to the history of his waqf (endowment).
The Museum is situated within the Kuršumlija madrasah (college), one of the many buildings
Gazi Husrev-bey built in Sarajevo. The Museum exhibit collection consists of eight
thematic sections displayed in areas which once served as classrooms. Through these
sections visitors can learn about Gazi Husrev-bey as a historical personality, about his
waqf and also about the Gazi Husrev-bey madrasah.
The central chamber of the Kuršumlija madrasah - the dershana (auditorium) is where the
collection of rare items of the waqf is situated; there is also a room housing a set of instruments
that determine the exact time (muvekkithana), a room with old photos of the waqf
and also a room dedicated to the waqf properties damaged during the 1992-1995 siege of
Sarajevo.

GAZI-HUSREV BEGOV VAKUF
BESPLATAN ULAZ SA SARAJEVO CITY CARD 🆓️

Muzej je posvećen Gazi Husrev-begu (1480 - 1541. godine), upravitelju Bosne i jednom
od najvećih graditelja Sarajeva i historijatu njegovog vakufa (zadužbine).
Muzej je smješten u prostoru Kuršumlije medrese (visoke škole), jedne od brojnih
građevina koje je Gazi Husrev-beg podigao u Sarajevu. Muzejska postavka sastoji se od
osam tematskih cjelina raspoređenih u nekadašnjim učionicama. Posjetitelji se kroz ove
cjeline mogu upoznati sa Gazi Husrev-begom kao historijskom ličnošću, sa njegovim
vakufom, kao i sa Gazi Husrev-begovom medresom.
U centralnoj prostoriji Kuršumli medrese - dershani (predavaonici) smještena je kolekcija
raritetnih predmeta vakufa, tu je i soba sa instrumentima za određivanje vremena (muvekkithana),
soba sa starim fotografijama Gazi Husrev-begovog vakufa, kao i soba posvećena
stradanju objekata vakufa tokom opsade Sarajeva 1992 - 1995. godine.

This section was named after the permanent exhibition Sarajevo 1878-1918, depicting the
history of the Austro-Hungarian rule in this region, from the arrival of the military troops, a new administration, changes in housing and living, all the way to new crafts, economy,

culture of living; cultural and religious-educational associations, printing and publishing; industry and architecture; annexation and the Bosnian parliament; the assassination

The Sarajevo 1878-1918 section is located in the building overlooking the street where the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian Crown Prince and his wife actually happened. For
this reason, real-life sized mannequins of Franz Ferdinand and Sofia are displayed in the exhibition area.

Depandans Muzeja Sarajeva dobio je naziv po stalnoj izložbenoj postavci «Sarajevo 1878-1918», koja predstavlja historijat austro-ugarske vladavine na ovom području, od
dolaska vojnih trupa, preko nove uprave, promjena u kulturi stanovanja i življenja, do novih zanata, privrede, arhitekture, razvoja nauke i umjetnosti.
U postavci su prikazane sljedeće teme: Otpor okupaciji; Nova administrativna uprava;
Kultura življenja; Kulturna i vjersko-prosvjetna društva, štamparije i izdavaštvo; Industrija
i arhitektura; Aneksija i Bosanski sabor; Atentat na prijestolonasljednika Franca Ferdinanda
i njegovu suprugu Sofiju i Prvi svjetski rat.
Depandans Muzej Sarajevo 1878-1918 se nalazi u zgradi ispred koje je izvršen atentat na austro-ugarskog prijestolonasljednika i njegovu suprugu. Zbog toga su u izložbenom
prostoru smještene lutke koje prikazuju Franca Ferdinanda i Sofiju u prirodnoj veličini.
