During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992-1995.), Igman suddenly became planetary known from April 1992. to December 1995. At that time, the capital city Sarajevo, was under the siege from the former Yugoslav Army (JNA).

At that time, the residents of Sarajevo were continuously shelled, terrorized by artillery fire from the surrounding hills, they didn’t have telecommunication connections and mostly exposed to all shortages without regular supply of water, electricity and gas.

Igman’s defense was the paradigm of the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and at that time on this place, soldiers of Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina started to build mosque, who will after the war become famous as The Igman War Mosque.
