The First Airbus A350 Hull Loss!
A Japan Airlines Airbus A350-900 collided with a Japan Coast Guard DHC-8 on the runway while landing as flight JL526 at Tokyo Haneda Airport. As a result, the A350 completely engulfed in flames, marking the first Airbus A350 hull loss.
The coast guard aircraft was waiting to depart to Niigata delivering aid following the New Year's Day Earthquake. Both aircraft have been completely destroyed.
- First hull loss of an Airbus A350
- First hull loss of a JAL aircraft in 39 years
- First hull loss at Tokyo-Haneda in 42 years
According to reports, all 367 passengers and 12 crew members safely evacuated from the A350 by using emergency slides. However, the Coast Guard aircraft had six people on board and one escaped with an injury, but the status of the other five was unknown.
Footage taken by one of the passengers (wmanzione) makes you appreciate the JAL cabin crew who in this case successfully evacuated all passengers from the burning aircraft.
Hats off to their training and situational awareness!
