Urology is a subject which deals with the diseases of the urinary tract of male & female. It also deals with reproductive diseases or abnormalities in male population. The surgical diseases of urinary tract are extremely common in Bangladeshi population. Almost every family has got at least two elderly patient (Father & Mother) likely to suffer from urological problems. Urological
problem like enlargement of Prostate, Kidney Cancer, Prostate cancer, Bladder Cancer, urinary tract obstruction, kidney stones, male sexual dysfunction, infertility and incontinence are common among all segments of population. There are a very few specialized hospitals deal with these urological problems in Bangladesh, which is inadequate to serve the huge number of urological cases. Disease like prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer and other genitourinary cancer is a great burden for the society. But these deadly diseases are largely preventable and can be cured if detected early. More over current technological advances allow us to treat them through minimally invasive technique. Government medical colleges are offering urological service at a small scale, but it is too less than the increasing demand. Patient wafting list is very long and many people die while waiting for admission. Cancer patients frequently become inoperable even they detected at an early stage. A few Private sectors have made significant progress in this field but unfortunately, since the greater portion of population are poor; they cannot seek treatment from the private hospitals. Peoples most often attend the hospital due to urological problems at a later stage of diseases; this makes the situation worse. Urology and Transplantation Foundation of Bangladesh is a non-governmental, non-profit-making, specialized, and charitable organization committed to healing people with urological problems, mostly who are unable to pay. Currently UTFB is providing out patient services in patient services including urological interventions. It is also providing teaching, training of urological trainee by offering hands on experience in patient performing urological intervention like endoscopic, laparoscopic & other operations. The foundation also runs a specialized laparoscopy training; 5 days (30 hours) course. About 160 young specialists have been trained so far. The foundation also holds regular executive committee meeting in every 2 weeks to discuss & share the experiences with management of difficult cases. We know the task is enormous and we would like to consider this to be a noble undertaking and we trust in the humanitarian goodwill of people around the country and throughout the world. Thus, we implore the kindness of donors considering our proposal for funding for the construction, equipment and institutionalization of non-profit, state of the art urology center in Bangladesh.
