The "Rash Mela," a popular Hindu festival commemorating Lord Krishna and Shri Randhika, is held in the Bangla month of Kartik (October/November). It takes place in Sundarbans on Dubla Island, which is located on the southern coast of Sundarbans and at the mouth of the Ganges delta, where the holy Ganges meets the sea.
It is one of Bangladesh's largest fairs. This has become a grand occasion for many foreign tourists visiting the Sundarbans, as well as visitors from India. At the heart of the festival are 20,000 temporary fishermen who are catching and drying fish on Dubla and nearby islands. Every year during the full moon in the Bangla month of Agrahayan, the fair lasts for 5-7 days.
Dubla Island is part of the Sundarbans forest in the Bay of Bengal. This fair was founded in 1923 during Rash Purnima by Hari Bhajan, a disciple of Thakur Hari Chand. To carry on his legacy and keep his memory alive, devotees, particularly Sundarbans fishermen, organize this five-day fair. Every year, 40-50 thousand people attend the celebrations. Traditional handicrafts, valuable wooden items, foods, and other items are for sale.
