#MarchMatness2018, #Day16: Scissors and Bicycle - one is a progression of the second. This exercise focuses on abdominal strength, hamstring flexibility, opening the hip flexors and spine flexibility. Open your legs only as wide as you can manage while keeping your knees straight!
@shaaziaq works her way up to larger openings in scissors, and that's the goal, to go further out each time. ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
*Tips for #Scissors*
♦Try and start with your legs pointing straight to the ceiling. Open both legs evenly from that line.
♦ Try to rest your butt in your hands like a cup in a saucer.
♦Pulse the legs open twice in the open position before coming back to centre.
*Tips for #Bicycle*
♦ Start by opening into scissors, and from there bend one knee in to bicycle it to the opposite side.
♦ Don't start to bend the next knee, until you reach the scissors position on the opposite side. ♦Keep your torso stable on your arms, and relax your neck and shoulders while doing this.
♦Do one side and then reverse the movement.

#MarchMatness2018, #Day15: Neck Pull - is nothing like what the name suggests!! This exercise focuses on core control, spinal articulation, and back strengthening. It is an advanced version of the #RollUp. Tag a friend and see if you guys can roll up without lifting your legs!
@shaaziaq is doing the version with her feet flexed which is giving her better stabilization, and I'm doing the feet pointed version which is making it really challenging to keep my legs grounded.

*Tips*
♦As you roll to upright, think of what we did during spine stretch, and articulate the spine as if it were against a wall.
♦The hinge/lean back part is optional. Don't do it if you feel pain in your lower back.
♦From the hinge, as you curve your pelvis to roll down, try to resist the force of gravity and really use your abs to articulate the spine down.
♦ Roll up keeping your shoulders down and pressing your head into your hands, so that there is no strain on your neck.
♦️ You can use a rolled up towel under your lower back to modify the neck pull and give you some support.

It also works on strengthening your back extensors and glutes. It stretches your anterior shoulders, chest and quads. My workout partner @shaaziaq and I had a great time doing this on the grass. *Tips*
♦ Clasp your hands together behind your back and release your elbows down on the floor.
♦ Take three pulses as you pull your abs away from the floor, bend your knees and push your heels towards your glutes.
♦ On an inhale, extend your arms behind you and lift your head, chest and legs off the mat, maintaining the stability of your pelvis.
♦Don't over extend your neck, make sure it is in line with your spine.
♦Follow this exercise with a counter stretch like sitting in child's pose.

#MarchMatness2018, #Day12: Swan Dive - is all about whole body integration. This exercise stretches the front line of your body and strengthens the back line. If done correctly it can feel like you've lengthened the spine out while strengthening it. Tag a friend you want to try it with, start with the Baby Swan and Swan version first, and then move on to the dive. Tag me and @shaaziaq when you post it!
⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
♦ Start Baby Swan with your arms in a W shape, so that your shoulder blades aren't retracted. Press into the ground as you lengthen and lift up and away from your body, keeping the pelvis stable and abdominal muscles pulling towards the spine.
♦ For the Full Swan version, repeat the above, but extend your arms completely. Make sure your neck does not go into hyper extension. Lift your chest and lengthen your abdominals. ♦ While attempting Swan Dive, think of your body as a solid whole in the Swan position, and rock front and back across your pelvis, not changing the position of your body.
♦ Don't do the Swan Dive without guidance if you have back issues!
