Downtown Corbin was vining to the oldies with this Mother's Day weekend car show. Definitely some beauty's to behold.

Cumberland falls state park. The rain has the river flooding over. The beach was washed out and we had to take the alternate trail. Explored a few "caves" and found coal rocks. I love this park. It has hiking trails and mulitple levels of look outs. Great place to get selfies, propose to your girl or just admire the great force of nature that is water. They also have an educational center and a gift shop for souvenirs. There is a mining attraction. Buy a bag of gems from the gift shop and wash them clean to see what amazing gems you find.

Visited the electric bridge, Sanders Park and the Corbin Depot.
The little park has a crossover bridge that locals used to drive on to get to a main road, but vandals have damaged it and you can't even walk on it. There is a nice paved trail to walk the length of the river and you run into many locals out for a stroll.
My next stop was the Corbin Depot, now the Corbin welcome center. There is an engine and two cars on display. Along with the plagues explaining the importance of the train on early Corbin. Across from the trains and Welcome.Center is Sanders Park. There are four benches at either entrance with Colonel Sanders laser cut in each bench. Bricks paid for by local businesses lead up to Sanders statue and each bench has a sign with the history of KFC and Colonel Sanders. The middle has a statue of the Colonel welcoming you to his park. There are also picnic tables and a life size chess game. It was a nice little visit to downtown Corbin. This weekend coming up is the Colonel Fest downtown. I may have to check it out and see what it's all about Friday.

Levi Jackson State Park

Located in London, KY off of US25 is a family graveyard and state park. If you enter from US 25 you will be met with McHargue's Mill. It's a small building that once served as the town grain mill. The pathway leading up to the mill is lined with old mill wheels. The history of wandering the woods to find rocks for the new wheels, the craft of designing the wheels and the short falls created to trap the water for the grinding wheelsis a beautiful view. The museum was closed as it is still early spring so I will venture back when warmer weather is upon us. As you drive deeper into the park there are hiking trails. At the end of the road is a pool with a huge rubber ducky for summer adventures. If you turn right about a half a mile down the road is the family cemetery of Levi Jackson with graves dating back to the 1800's. Some have fallen over, but there is a new plaque in place next to the broken headstone to commemorate the grave. The original headstone is still in place to protect the history. I recommend a visit to this park to explore the early pioneers way of living and enjoy some fresh air.
