Brussels Airlines and United launch new long-haul routes from Brussels Airport
December 31, 2015
Brussels Airlines today announced the launch, starting in the spring of 2016, of a new route to Toronto (Canada) as well as the commissioning in 2017 of a new A330 to Africa. For the summer season, United is launching a second daily flight between Brussels Airport and New York (Newark). The flights to Toronto and New York replace the links that Jet Airways decided to discontinue as of 27 March 2016. These developments strengthen the long-haul network of Brussels Airport.

Brussels Airlines has confirmed the start of 5 nonstop flights per week from Brussels Airport to Toronto as of next spring. Thanks to the close collaboration with the Belgian carrier, Brussels Airport will be able to continue offering, with only the slightest interruption, direct service to Canada shortly after the effective departure of Jet Airways on 26 March 2016.

During the 2016 summer season, Brussels Airlines’ partner United will be consolidating its transatlantic offer, going from one to two flights a day to New York (Newark), a very popular destination from Brussels Airport.

What’s more, as of spring 2016 Brussels Airlines will also increase the frequency of flights to Kigali in Rwanda and to Entebbe in Uganda, and in 2017 will commission a new Airbus 330 to support its African service.

“With these new destinations, Brussels Airlines confirms its role as a major player in the Star Alliance network flying out of Brussels Airport. This will also give a boost to tourism as well as to the cargo shipping activities which are essential for the economic relations of our country”, explains Bernard Gustin, Brussels Airlines CEO.

“The strong partnership between Brussels Airlines and Brussels Airport and the dynamism of both our companies made it possible for us to anticipate Jet Airways’ departure and quickly develop, in collaboration with United, new routes to important destinations in North America. This collaboration allows us to envisage other destinations for the future, to India for instance, and to increase Belgium’s connectivity with the rest of the world,” says Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport.
