In november reis ik weer met 6 lieve ladies naar Namibië voor ‘Extraordinary Namibia’, mijn Soul Safari Retreat dat ik daar host. Zoveel zin in om deze dames te laten kennis maken met Wonderland Namibië. Ondertussen ben ik al eens het brainstormen welke fijne goodies er in de ‘Safari Sophie Do Good Feel Good Goodie Bag’ komen te zitten. 3 weeks in magical Kenya. 3 weeks in my favourite African country. Sorry South Africa, you lost me.

2 weeks of adventuring & showing my safari guests the magic of bush & beach safaris.

1 week of honeymooning with my mister & making some concrete plans for the future.

3 more weeks to go. 2 more weeks of exploring some new & old places. And 1 week for myself to reflect on the past year & new year to come.

A visit to a Maasai village always needs an informative introduction. Like a brief background, info about history & traditions, what to expect & how to react.

Because a visit can feel a bit overwhelming, is quite intense and leave you with mixed feelings.

Safari Sophie’s guides will always make sure that you are well informed before you enter a Maasai village. The guide will collect the entrance fee (25 USD per person) & hand it over to our Maasai guide. This money will be used to buy cattle or veggies from local markets, to buy other necessities and to pay for school fees.

The village tour starts with welcome dances. Feel free to take as much photos and videos if you want + ask questions as you like.

At the end of the visit your Maasai guide will stop at the souvenir market. This stop is mandatory. You are never forced to buy anything. You will definitely feel some pressure. If you say friendly, ‘no thanks’ and show respect; hakuna matata; everything will be fine.

When you want to support and take some beautiful souvenirs home, the basic rule is to negotiate. The Maasai guy on the photo is discussing the start price on his arm. Be prepared for haggling, the spice of Kenyan trading.

This is how we do sundowners during a Soul Safari Retreat.

Heading to a beautiful sundowner spot after a wild game drive. The setting sun, the air filled with birdlife, the distant sound of a roaring lion, a bottle of cold wine or fresh g&t’s & a wonderful selection of snacks to dig into.

Drinks, nibbles, sweet company, lovely chats, lots of giggles, dancing with the Masaai (always fun)… and orange and pink skies.

A sundowner in Africa is unforgettable!

The Mara is wild & full of wildlife. It’s a kitty cat kingdom. We have been so lucky to observe this beautiful leopard just a few minutes before he was hiding again in the thick grasses and in the riverbed.

A few minutes of ‘racing’ through the bush with our safari jeep & guide, finding the good spot, adrenaline pumping through our veins & feeling the excitement. Photography gear ready & trying to capture the leopard in full swing.
