What monuments do you recognize in his work? We guess the Eiffel tower will not be difficult to point out. But can you spot out other monuments?

Here you have a link to the streaming of the conception af the Project Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped by Christo and Jeanne Claude.
This project has been postponed several times, but now it's finally happening.
Christo passed away in 2020, so this will be his last project for Paris. His wrapping of the Pont Neuf brigde in 1985 was a huge success. If you wish to see the Arc de Triumph wrapped with your own eyes, you have to visit Paris between the 18th of September and 3d of October this year.

Conçu par Christo dès 1962, le projet d'empaquetage de l'Arc de Triomphe à Paris se concrétise enfin, et sous nos yeux !

Tomorrow, May 5, it will be exactly 200 years since the death of Napoleon I. The emperor of the French died on the island of Saint Helena, where he lived in exile for six years. His remains were sent to Paris 19 years after his death, at the request of Louis-Philippe I, King of the French. These remains entered Paris with great fanfare followed by thousands of Parisians. A monumental tomb was designed by Visconti in his honor at the Invalides. Napoleon could finally find rest among the Parisians he had loved so much. Yet so many mysteries still surround the death of this extraordinary character: Did he really die naturally? Does he really rest at the Invalides? Next time you visit Paris, follow us on a fascinating tour with a guide in one of the Scandinavian languages ! 😃

INTERNATIONAL WATER DAY -💦💦💦
The Wallace fountains, these beautiful green cast iron fountains that we regularly come across while strolling in the streets of Paris. Follow their story :
Parisians have just experienced one of the worst winters in their history, followed by the insurrection of the Commune 150 years ago ! For months, they lacked food, but also water because many aqueducts were destroyed during the war and the price of water consequently rose.
The English collector Richard Wallace, had lived in Paris for several years. He wondered what he could do to help. He decided to offer fountains to the City of Paris, so that its inhabitants may quench their thirst. 💦💦💦
But Richard wanted these fountains to be as practical as they are beautiful. And for that he called on the sculptor Charles-Auguste Lebourg. Wallace, together with Eugène Belgrand, the father of the Paris sewer system, defined the strategic locations of these fountains.
Still today, about a hundred Wallace fountains stand strong in the capital and function as on the first day. During the high season, they provide good quality drinking water to Parisians and tourists alike.
💦💦💦
HAVE A HAPPY WEEK ! 😊

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 💃💃💃
Let’s bring a providential woman out of the shadows !

Madame Carpentier and Auguste Renoir
The Carpentier couple is less known as mecene of Impressionist painters than Paul Durand-Ruel or Ambroise Vollard. Nevertheless, it was Marguerite Carpentier's order that brought Renoir out of poverty. 🌹🌹🌹
Auguste Renoir, together with the other representatives of the very innovative movement called Impressionism, had difficulty in selling his paintings. The family lived in poverty, helped by a few more fortunate painter friends. 🌹🌹🌹
Renoir exhibits at the Salon, one of his small canvases "The Chocolate Cup" in the hope of receiving a few orders. But customers do not rush. It was at this time that Marguerite Carpentier, belonging to an upper middle-class family under the Second Empire and wife of Georges Charpentier, amateur painter and director of the publishing house issuing works written by Zola, Flaubert, de Maupassant, orders a canvas from him. This large canvas represents Madame Carpentier with her children in the living room of their Parisian mansion. Thanks to the insistence and networks of influence of Madame Carpentier, this painting was received at the annual Salon at the Palais de l'Industrie on the Champs Elysées. 🌹🌹🌹
And the praises were there ! Pissarro exclaimed: I think Renoir is up for it. So much the better! Misery is so hard!

From now on, Renoir could paint peacefully with a smile on his face and his brush singing.

What would have become Renoir's work without the support of Madame Marguerite Carpentier?

Happy international womens day ! 🌹🌹🌹

Three days ago we celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls of Science. Let's pay a tribute to Marie Curie in this occasion : Marie Curie was a Polish-French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and she won it twice in 1903 and in 1911 in two scientific fields, an achievement not reached by anyone else. She was also the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris.
Under her direction, the world's first studies were conducted into the treatment of neoplasms by the use of radioactive isotopes. She founded the Curie Institute in Paris and the Curie Institute in Warsaw; both remain major centers of medical research today. During World War I she developed mobile radiography units to provide X-ray services to field hospitals. She conducted this operation with her daughter Irene.
In addition to her Nobel Prizes, she received numerous other honors and tributes; in 1995 she became the first woman to be entombed on her own merits in Panthéon.

Bon appetit!

Today we celebrate Candlemas Day which marks the end of the Christmas season and is called Chandeleur in French This is an old Jewish tradition, the newborn child was carried to the temple 40 days after birth. It is also a celebration of light where candles are lit and blessed. In France, it is a tradition to serve crepes on this day. There are many explanations for this ancient tradition. One of them is that the round shape of the crepe is reminds us of the sun and we celebrate the return of light in the world. If you want to make crepes the French way, add some beer to your batter and your crepes will be light and airy!
– 250g of flour
– 3 eggs
– ½ liter of milk
– 25 cl beer
Some rum or vanilla can be added as well, after your taste 😊
Bon appetit!
