In Bruges we strive for sustainability. During the GDS-Forum and the CityDNA Autumn Conference 2024 various sustainability initiatives were taken:

↗️ The CityDNA conference was held in Crowne Plaza Brugge, a Green Key location.
↗️ The GDS forum took place in Zwin Natuur Park. 🌿They are part of UNESCO Global Geopark, recognized for its unique geological heritage and focus on education and sustainable tourism.
↗️ 🚂 Through a hashtag , we encouraged participants to travel to Bruges by train.
↗️ flibco.com and Visit Bruges joined forces to offer participants free bus transport from Brussels-Charleroi Airport to Bruges. 🚌
↗️ Catering focused on meals made with local ingredients from nearby suppliers.🥗🍽️ We collaborated with caterers D's Deldycke Traiteurs, The Shelter, and brewery Brouwerij De Halve Maan, which enabled us to guarantee both quality and sustainability.

The CityDNA Autumn Conference is now taking place in Crowne Plaza Brugge situated in the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage City. The hotel holds the Green Key label and made lots of efforts to guarantee their guests a sustainable stay. Recently, the hotel installed 70 solar panels on its roof. It is the first large building in the city center to do this.

Yesterday, tourism experts united in the Saint Magdalena Church for ImpactDay, an inspiring event organized by Impact4you - HR Consulting, VISITFLANDERS Convention Bureau and Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement). 🌱 Sustainability managers were here to innovate and rethink tourism as 'legacy makers,' turning conferences into meaningful experiences that benefit both participants and the local community.

Our Sales Manager Kathy Van Wambeke participated in a panel discussion and talked about how Visit Bruges Convention Bureau could contribute and support this initiative.

We are looking forward to welcoming the CityDNA Autumn Conference & GDS Forum next week. The city of Bruges – a center of innovation, sustainability, and progressive tourism management – is the perfect host. The conference theme is ‘When Pigs fly’, which has long been synonymous with the wildly improbable. We now need those pigs to fly – as our challenges and ambitions in urban tourism demand seemingly impossible solutions.

With no fewer than 250 tourism professionals and representatives, including 81 DMOs and convention bureaus from 28 countries, we can already call this an exceptional success.

In this video Professor Elegast Monbaliu explains why EACD2024 has chosen Bruges as host city. It was the largest European Conference in the sector and created a significant impact on the local community of Bruges and beyond.

His aim was to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities dating back to childhood. The conference was to be a lever for greater inclusivity and accessibility of sports, culture and technology applications for the target group. They organized an Opening Concert in Concertgebouw Brugge, an Experience Room in BMCC and a Sports Festival under the umbrella EACD+.

Today, the 66th Avec General Assembly takes place in the Crowne Plaza Brugge. The largest meeting hotel in the historic city center. The 12 well equipped meeting rooms can host up to 370 delegates. The four stars hotel is very sustainable, it holds the Green Key label.

The conference also offers an exciting social program organised by our DMC True by Geoffrey Van Hulle. It includes a welcome dinner in the Provincial Palace and a gala dinner in the Concertgebouw Brugge, both Flanders Heritage Venues. The partner program includes a guided tour in the less known St Anna and St Giles quarter with the medieval harbour, small almshouses and narrow streets. A second guided tour takes the visitors through the historical centre of the city along the Market square, the Burg, fishmarket and the beguinage.

EMC Europe 2024, the International Symposium & Exhibition on Electromagnetic Compatibility, is being held in the state-of-the-art Bruges Meeting & Convention Centre. Our UNESCO World Heritage City on the other hand offers the idyllic setting to inspire creativity among participants. The conference dinner took place at the Flanders Heritage Venue La Brugeoise.
