Jana is a 1960's cargo ship that has been renovated into a spacious loft-style houseboat for 4 pax.

The boat has two seperate bedrooms, a large living area, and a private sauna and 360° sundeck

Every 5 to 7 years, the boat needs to be lifted out of the water and inspected in a shipyard.

It’s a necessary session in terms of maintenance of the ship. It is THE moment to check if the steel construction – especially what is below the waterline – is still safe and if the engine and other technics are up to date and working well.

Once on the shipyard, we are being officially inspected, similar to the yearly car inspection. Only at this moment, we know which reparations have to happen and for how long we will be away from home.

As you can see in the pictures, we have collected a lot of mussels and a bit rust underneath the water line during the years… This is being cleaned, restored and repainted in the shipyard.

The inspector had zero remarks, so that means the ship has been safe in the past and will be safe for the next 7 years!

When the water comes out of this tap, where does it come from?

Life aboard is certainly different to life ashore. When you are at home, you open the tap and the water seems to be unlimited. 💦💦💦💦💦

Aboard, we constantly have to be aware of our limits, as there is no connection to the water network.

We are able to store up to 4000 liters of rainwater aboard. It is stored under the bathroom and under the wheelhouse. In dryer periods, or when highly used, we can refill the storage tanks with tap water.

Showering costs 15 liters of water per minute. Flushing the toilet equals 10 liters of water.
This calculations puts things in persective.

Have you ever been in an original boatsmen-bedroom?

This room is located in the ship's peak. The boatsman could enter the room directly from outside, as he had a room apart from the captain and his family. The captain's famiily had their own living area in the back of the ship.

The bedroom is now connected to the former cargo space through the inside.

The room is very cozy and full of authentic details: the mahogany wood is over 50 years old and still in perfect shape. We have added some natural daylight for the comfort of our guests.

The room is divided in two levels: upstairs a single bed (80x200) and downstairs the old-fashioned size of 110x190.
