🌍 Exciting news! Today, our president Alessio Virgili had the opportunity to meet the Department of DG JUST at the European Commission , which focuses on Non-Discrimination: LGBTIQ, Age, and Horizontal Matters.

During this meeting, we presented ELTA and discussed our commitment to promoting equality and inclusivity across various sectors. Collaborating with such a pivotal unit reinforces our dedication to creating a fairer society for everyone.

We look forward to working together towards a more inclusive future!

The ruling Hungarian party, Fidesz, has proposed a bill to ban the Pride march organized by the LGBTQ+ community, imposing fines on both organizers and participants of an event that has taken place in Budapest for three decades. International media report that the bill prohibits Pride by stating that "meetings that violate the law on the protection of children cannot be held." Prime Minister Orbán has committed to suppressing foreign funding for independent media, opposition politicians, and NGOs in Hungary ahead of the elections scheduled for early next year.

We stand in solidarity with the Hungarian LGBTQ+ community and affirm our commitment to their rights and visibility.

⚠️ Important Note ⚠️

As the President of the European LGBTQ Travel Alliance (ELTA), I feel compelled to address a deeply troubling incident that has surfaced from Russia, highlighting the grave dangers faced by LGBTQ individuals under oppressive regimes.

Recently, we learned of the tragic death of Andrei Kotov, the director of Men Travel, who was detained for organizing LGBTQ travel tours. Reports indicate that he died in custody, with authorities claiming it was a su***de. However, there are serious concerns about the circumstances surrounding his detention and the treatment he received. Kotov allegedly reported being beaten during his arrest, raising significant questions about the integrity of the investigation and the safety of those who dare to advocate for LGBTQ rights in an increasingly hostile environment.

This incident is part of a broader crackdown by the Kremlin against anyone who does not conform to its "traditional values." Since the beginning of this year, the Russian government has categorized the LGBTQ movement as an extremist group, further endangering the lives of countless individuals and organizations that promote equality and inclusivity.

As a community dedicated to supporting LGBTQ travelers, we stand in solidarity with those who are persecuted for their identity. We must raise our voices against such injustices and work together to ensure that the rights of LGBTQ individuals are respected and protected worldwide. It is imperative that we advocate for change and hold accountable those responsible for these violations.

Let us remember Andrei Kotov and honor his legacy by continuing the fight for equality and justice for all. We must not remain silent in the face of such brutality.
