December 3 is International Day of Persons with Disabilities and this year the theme is celebrating and amplifying leadership of persons with disabilities.
At WheelTribe we are building a platform to promote travel, sports and hospitality businesses that are not only inclusive and accessible, but that are created or run by persons with a disability, their friends family and allies.
For us, everyday is December 3rd 😀
We are a community of friends, and we have some good tips for you, if you like to travel. Check out the WheelTribe website!

A morning in Rome doing DIY improvised tourism to try out the access to the @parcocolosseo - Mechthild of @inklusiveachtsamkeit and I especially wanted to try out the elevator and were surprised that there are actually TWO.
But one is very VIP and you need to book a month in advance, so we’ll just have to come back to watch the scene from the point of view of the Emperors.
The “Roman way” we gave thumbs up and down:
👍 Speed of access - just show up and the guys in yellow vests let you through - no long queues
👍 the elevator (the free one with no booking) because it is the coolest thing ever to have an elevator in not just A -but THE -heritage site
👍 Free water fountain to stay hydrated in the Roman summers
👍 Good wheeling experience on the whole of the first floor
👍Free entrance with disability card and +1
Thumbs down to
👎The toilet: the accessible one is at the end of a steep and narrow ramp
👎 Gaining the exit forces you to cross most of the ground floor, where the pavements are more difficult- also once you are out you are on the worst pavement ever. The wheelchairs exit should be where the pavement is less bad.
But great experience and considering that we are talking about the Coliseum… guys this is access gold, even with these people two negative aspects (which are also rather easy to fix).

♥️What a day out in Bruges! 😎For those who want to visit, but think it’s super complicated: check out how the city of Bruges and Inter - Toegankelijk Vlaanderen have been working to make it more accessible.👩🦽➡️You can see in some spots the comfort paths, for example, a way to make the cobblestone “lighter” for wheelchair users. Ramps and accessible entrances are more and more frequent too. Have a question?
