On 11 December 2024, Euromontana and the Government of Catalonia launched a declaration that outlines practical solutions and actionable recommendations to increase the prosperity, resilience and sustainability of mountain economies.

Covering sectors such as agriculture, tourism, circular economy, and entrepreneurship, the declaration sets out recommendations to European, national and regional institutions.

500,000 hectares burned to ashes last year ⚠️ of which 41% are part of Natura2000, Europe’s precious biodiversity network

In our mountains climate risks are colliding like never before ⛰️ Landslides in winter weaken the terrain and complicate access for firefighters in summer 🚒⛔

We must urgently strengthen our preparedness and resilience to forest fires!

Of the 500,000 hectares burnt in 2023, about 210,000 hectares (41%) belong to Natura 2000 sites. Mountain areas are biodiversity hotspots and are home to a large proportion of these protected areas, around 43% in the European Union.

On October 15, 2024, Euromontana elected a new President and Board aside of the European Mountain Convention in Puigcerdà (Catalonia). Laura Gascón Herrero from the Province of Teruel (Spain) will lead the organisation for the 2024–2028 term.
