Learning Expedition – The Sustainable Lead

Met de Elbphilharmonie, die op 11 januari 2022 het vijfjarig jubileum vierde, heeft Hamburg wereldwijd een reputatie als vooraanstaande cultuurstad verworven. Het zag er nochtans lange tijd naar uit dat dit prachtige en belangrijke gebouw voor de stad nooit gerealiseerd zou worden. De financiering ervan bezorgde de plaatselijke politiek namelijk verschillende jaren heel wat kopzorgen. In eerste instantie had men dan ook verwacht een financiering nodig te hebben van 77 miljoen euro. Uiteindelijk zou de totale kostprijs oplopen tot maar liefst 789 miljoen euro. Zomaar even 575 miljoen werd door de belastingbetaler betaald. Hoe het ook zij, op vandaag is de Elbphilharmonie één van de absolute boegbeelden van de stad. Een realisatie naar een ontwerp van Herzog & de Meuron, met ruim 1.096 individuele glaselementen, maakt dit gebouw het hoogste (deels) residentieel bouwwerk van de stad.

And so the brainstorming began…
What if we could have a dinner at the Royal Galleries? What if we could set up one long dining table? What if we would use a theme based on a Belgian painter?

And so this masterpiece came to life!
